I’ve changed my mind about December being the busiest month. For Working Parents: May you take the grand prize. 🏆 There’s Kinder Carnival, Clay animal show & tell, Luau Party, Field Day. We’re running in, enjoying, but always running out, likely dialing into the next thing. There’s sunglass day, pajama day, board game day, wear yellow day, dress up like your favorite animal. We’re always somehow one item short, dashing to Target or hoping Amazon pulls thru yet again. There’s end of year gifts for wonderful teachers, drivers, room parents. Different Venmo links for each. We’re hoping there’s an email we didn’t miss, but we know we probably did. This is my first year with 2 kids in elementary school and the amount of mental flotsam is NUTS. But I will say this: Us working parents. WE SHOW UP. The amount of parents (moms & dads) I see at every single event is staggering. We are finding ways to make work flexible so that we can be Working Parents. And those 2 things…they are NOT mutually exclusive. We Work and We Parent. Keep going! Embracing flexible working isn't just a perk, it's an essential move for any forward-thinking business🌟 I was so lucky to have had flexible working options when my two daughters were small (thanks jacqui hawthorn!). My experience with a flexible employer deeply shaped how I manage a team today. Josie Baum and Hannah Philp have woven the principles of balance and flexibility for everyone (not only parents and carers) into the ARC Club company culture. As I head out on a short period of parental leave for #willibum baby #2 👶🏻 (it's my wife Alexandra Willis' turn to be the birth parent ❣️) I wanted to put out an appreciation post to my co-founder Hannah Philp. I first met Hannah when our first daughter was only three months old. We shared the same vision for a new, vibrant way to bring life and community back to under-used spaces in our communities - and we went from there. Fast forward nearly four years - we pivoted ARC Club together into our 2.0 version that is now scaling - closing deals, a fundraising round and launching new clubs. I am very proud of where we are - but it's in large part down to being the two of us and how we flukily (sp.?!) fill each others gaps. I couldn't have done this alone - Hannah brings a huge ton of energy, flare and foresight that is the beavis to my steady, strategic, cautious butthead. And she's the reason I can step away for a few weeks now at such a critical time with comfort and calm - ready to prioritise my family for a little while. This is the culture we are baking into ARC Club as we scale - a business for working parents and carers, for flexible opportunity and inclusive policy. That is in large part why we hired the superpower that is the amazing Natasha Van Leempoel. Thank you Hannah for taking the punt on me and here's to years of 👷🏻♀️👷🏼♀️ to come!
