RIP the sender-receiver model. Today and tomorrows audience wants experience- to engage with meaning, and feel film and series more intimately. Be that as simple as bts and social, or as immersive as phygital collectables, VR worlds and IRL experiences. Even our current franchises (with a few exceptions) began, or have branched into, multi format and cross-medium content and gaming. Tomorrows franchises, they'll journey with the audience in a mutual experience that transcends every model of audience interaction ever imagined. Sega has appointed former Disney and Scopely executive Justin Scarpone as executive vice president and head of its newly established Global Transmedia Group. Scarpone will begin his new role on April 1, and will oversee advancements across Sega's portfolio, including franchises such as Persona, Like a Dragon, and Angry Birds. Warner Bros. and virtual reality company Cosm are planning to begin offering immersive “shared reality” experiences where audiences will be able to watch NBA and NHL broadcasts in large dome venues with 360 degree screens meant to simulate being at the game in person, the companies told Forbes—a venture Cosm hopes will benefit from the hype around the Las Vegas Sphere.

ESPN’s alternative to #VirtualReality headsets: 360° projection domes for immersive #sports viewing coming to Dallas and Los Angeles within the next 6 months. These LED domes introduced by Cosm will open in Los Angeles at the end of Q2 and Dallas at the end of Q3. They will be 87 feet (27 meters) in diameter and able to house between 1,500 and 2,500 guests. They'll incorporate video from 8K+ sources and integrate spatial audio, the details of which are yet to be revealed. The idea is to produce a viewing experience that simulates front-row seats, with the inclusion of hall spaces and food and beverage service. Domes like this are an alternative to #VirtualReality headsets, offering an awe-inspiring, immersive experience for multiple users without needing to wear a headset on your face, which not everyone finds comfortable. However, #VR does have advantages in that it is cheaper, more portable, requires less investment in space and equipment, and offers users more interactivity.
