Bandai Namco collaborates with grime legend D Double E and producer Fumez the Engineer on a new 'anthem' for Tekken 8. This is one of my favourite music and gaming collabs I've seen in a long time, and a masterclass in how to pull of an authentic partnership. Here's why it works: 🎮 D Double E is a massive fan of fighting games and Tekken, so this is an authentic partnership rather than getting in a big name for the sake of it. 🎵 Lyrics reference Tekken lore and fighting games, adding to that authenticity 🎶 Taps into the deep roots and links between fighting games and grime/ UK music. One of the earliest Tekken remix albums (Windermere: The Jungle Remixes) features remixes of Tekken music by UK artists and producers such as Lemon D and Dubtronix. 💡 Respects the growing trend of game studios recognizing music collabs as a vital marketing asset by releasing an 'anthem' - essentially a key music asset celebrating the game. New Post: ‘Helldivers 2’ teases third faction for players to fight - https://lnkd.in/gg7C54kW - Arrowhead Game Studios appeared to be hinting at a third faction for Helldivers 2 players to fight in an in-game announcement about “Illuminate sightings”. READ MORE: How Søren Lundgaard is taking the toxicity out of video games The Illuminate appeared in the first entry in the sci-fi shooter series. As an extremely advanced alien race, they used their cognitive abilities to create a web of surveillance and technology to both explore space and inform themselves about their enemies. The Loadout reported that an in-game Easter egg in the form of a ship broadcast referenced “rumours of Illuminate sightings” which was chalked up to the “work of dissidents”. Credit: Arrowhead Game Studios At the moment, Helldivers 2 fights are against the Automatons or the Terminids, requiring different strategies to take out their different approaches. Automatons’ defence is focused on armour and they remain out of the line of fire with ranged attacks. However, they are vulnerable to energy weapons and armour-piercing attacks from players. On the other hand, Terminids swarm onto the field with melee strategies but they are weak to fire. It’s unknown how a possible Illuminate faction would play, but in Helldivers, it was important to not be detected by the aliens’ patrols. Destroying beacons then stopped the Illuminate from sending out alarms and piling on the team of players, ensuring that the fight remained fair. As there is no word from Arrowhead Game Studios about a potential arrival of the Illuminate in Helldivers 2, players might be waiting for a while before they are officially confirmed. Additionally, efforts continue to solve the server issues that have plagued thousands of players over the course of its launch. New Post: ‘Persona 3 Reload’ is shaping up to be a must-play remake - https://lnkd.in/gfS32KQJ - In 2006, the most unrealistic parts of role-playing game Persona 3 were the monsters. The secret Dark Hour that plunges the world under a sickly green moon at midnight. A supernatural realm, hidden in the fictional Japanese town of Tatsumi Port Island. But that was 18 years ago. In ground-up remake Persona 3 Reload, you’ll instead suspend disbelief at the thought of regularly eating at restaurants, or all of your friends being free on the same days. If you’re not familiar with the original game, by day you live a slice-of-life fantasy as a student at Gekkoukan High School, hanging out with pals and keeping on top of school work. By night, you and a band of students head into the Dark Hour to slay Shadow monsters and save the town. Our time in Reload begins at the end of a school day, around five hours into the full game. Our last preview was spent battering Shadows and swooning at the game’s gothic makeover, so this time, we’re here to party – and by that, we mean doing everything but saving the world. Both are enticing offers, but we’re dying to explore Tatsumi Port Island. A modern-day graphical overhaul with a gorgeous lighting system means the area has never looked this good, and there’s plenty to keep you busy. We spent our afternoon buying weapons from a shady policeman and meeting a school friend for dinner, but as the in-game days unfurled we also squared up to misogynists, had our fortune told in the middle of a nightclub, and discovered the epic highs and lows of high school track team practice. We also spent an entire day joining a restaurant’s online fan club, but the less said about that one, the better. In last year’s re-release of Persona 3 Portable, Tatsumi Port Island could only be explored in 2D. Reload brings things up to speed by making the jump to 3D. It’s a massive improvement – as with Tokyo in Persona 5, and 4‘s sleepy town of Inaba, being able to move around and see what’s going on each day is a blast. However, Persona 3 Reload director Takuya Yamaguchi tells NME that Reload’s cast – and the island itself – has had a bit of a growth spurt since our last visit. “When we were working on the new town and everything, one of the key changes was changing the size of the characters to be more realistic, says Yamaguchi. “Because they’re now a little bit taller, we changed the scale of the town to fit that. One thing that we were really careful doing was not ‘Oh they’re taller now, it’s realistic, photo-realism done!’ We wanted to keep the feel of Persona 3 – we had to make su

After recent previews, developer Massive Entertainment has shared some insights. READ MORE: ‘Star Wars Outlaws’ could be the dream ‘Star Wars’ game you’re looking for Speaking to IGN, Julian Gerighty, creative director at Massive Entertainment, explained some of the philosophy behind taking on a game of this scale. “I think this is maybe just my approach, but even if it’s scary, you’ve got to do it, you’ve got to lean into it. What’s the downside to pitching a Star Wars game in San Francisco at LucasFilm Games in George Lucas’ old office? “It’s the outlaw player fantasy and it’s open world, those were the two main pillars that we pitched,” Gerighty continued. “Why open world? Because the outlaw fantasy really needs that to live and breathe.” Massive Entertainment has a solid pedigree in the open-world genre, having developed The Division and The Division 2, as well as Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, so we know it can deliver when it comes to established sci-fi film IPs. Star Wars Outlaws follows Kay Vess, a scoundrel planning a massive heist. It’s a third-person action-adventure game and will have blasters and gadgets rather than lightsabers and Force powers. “For us, the sort of cinematic ambition that we had was in presentation,” says Gerighty. But that doesn’t just mean cutscenes. “What I care the most about is the interactive part,” he adds. “One of our intentions for the beginning of the game was to make it feel very small and then bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger,” explains Gerighty. “So,beginning of the game, you start off in one room and it’s claustrophobic and it’s meant to make you feel a little bit trapped. You open up and it’s city streets, but it’s contained. And then you get into some narrative stuff and you steal a ship and you explode into the galaxy and all of a sudden you crash land on this planet, which is a wide open world.” Star Wars Outlaws launches August 30, 2024. READ MORE: How ‘Baldur’s Gate 3’ got narrator Amelia Tyler through “very dark times” According to Larian, Shadowheart has proven to be the most popular romantic interest among fans, with 51.3 per cent of players reaching the end of her romance path, with Karlach and Lae’zel taking the number two and three slots respectively. 1.3million players have completed the game so far, with 94 per cent of players creating a custom character instead of choosing from the available origin characters. Speaking of origin characters, people who did choose to play as one of the pre-created characters chose to play as Gale, with Astarion closely following as the number two choice. The least played as origin character was Lae’zel, with only 228,960 people choosing to play as her, which is almost half of the number that chose to play as Gale. ‘Baldur’s Gate 3’ Credit: Larian Studios In terms of total playtime, Larian has confirmed that around 452,556,984 hours have been spent in the game, or the equivalent of over 51,662 years. Of this, a combined 8196 years were spent in the character creator by players. Larian also revealed that since the new update which added the new difficulty option last week, 158,000 playthroughs have been started in Honour mode. Of these playthroughs, 34,000 players have died in Honour mode, while only a mere 464 parties have completed the game in the new difficulty. NME reviewed Baldur’s Gate 3 at launch, calling the game a “must-play fantasy”. Andy Brown wrote that “Larian’s latest role-playing spectacle boasts unmatched worldbuilding, freedom, and scale. The scope of Baldur’s Gate 3 should be impossible – but time and time again, it proves there’s no such thing.” Elsewhere in gaming, Bethesda has readded paid mods to The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, seven years after originally removing them.
