Supernal’s S-A2 takes a novel approach with eight tilting props on booms attached to the wing - four that tilt upward in the front, and four that tilt downward in the rear, all of which are powered during all phases of flight. "We've learned a lot about the dynamics of fixed rotors in forward flight and there are a lot of, we believe, unfavorable characteristics when you have to stop lift rotors or try to stow lift rotors," Ben Diachun said. "You get large asymmetries on the blades; you can have large moments on the hub assembly that's holding those blades. IS AIRSHIP BELLY MOORING PRACTICAL? (PART 2) So, what forces might be involved? The worst case scenario according to a Goodyear study is a maximum wind hitting the (obviously unprepared) airship at 90 degrees. They used a 60 knot wind (as possible in large parts of the USA) and a large airship of 875,000 cubic feet (24,777 cubic meters) with a Volume 2/3 of 850 square meters. The Volume 2/3 for our 740 cubic meter UPship 3300 is 81.8 square meters, or 0.0962 as much as theirs, so our forces would be proportionally less. Here are the maximum mast forces that they got, for different locations of belly mooring. Thank you Goodyear! Our mooring point would correspond to 54 feet from the bow on their ship, and the maximum mast force shown is about 125,000 pounds. (CORRECTION: I was following the wrong line, the force is about 95,000 pounds)

Monday Motivation FYI, rudder pressure refers to the force that is applied to the rudder in order to counteract the effects of crosswinds. Crosswinds are winds that are perpendicular to the direction of the aircraft's travel, and they can cause the aircraft to drift off course. To counteract this, the pilot must apply a force to the rudder to keep the aircraft on its intended path. The rudder pressure required to do this will vary depending on the strength of the crosswinds and the size and weight of the aircraft.
