The latest IPA (Institute of Practitioners in Advertising) Bellwether report for Q4 2023 shows the highest marketing budget growth since 2014. Even in the face of a difficult economic environment, the results show that businesses understand that sustaining activity throughout tougher times safeguards the long term wellbeing of their brands. Improved measurement will also undoubtedly be contributing to the justification of spends. With the industry outlook for the remainder of the year looking positive, we are particularly interested in how the specific spends per category will alter as the economic situation evolves, with this report showing stronger growth for online and video than some other media categories.

Very true Ian Perrin - this is old news and yes I was part of the holdco that did this for a variety of reasons! From my perspective our investment directors and strategist always aligned with the below: True media investment strategy takes into account economic factors, analytics of historical spends vs objectives, ad spend volatility if it exists, client objectives by product or overall and the ability to create value that aligns with the clients objectives. In fact it is the best microeconomic model that you can analyse. Then the decision is made to go long or short and it really doesn't matter what media it is - the model and assessment works for the best outcome of the client.
