- I was chatting with friends recently when one of them said, "It's great when a plan comes together, I feel very satisfied when something fails exactly as I knew it would." Now, the humor in that statement often fits perfectly when scheduling a healthcare project. Scheduling in the healthcare industry is unpredictable. If you think through common issues, you could build your schedule to accommodate the unexpected. Here are three common areas that require consideration, stakeholder availability, regulatory requirements, and operational constraints. All projects have issues with stakeholder availability, in the healthcare environment, this is complicated by genuine emergencies that prevent key stakeholders from performing project related tasks. To address this, try to have two stakeholders designated for a given project role. When the primary person's not available, the backup can step in.
