- [Instructor] When we're thinking about optimizing Snowflake DB, we really want to understand virtual warehouses, which is the abstraction against the underlying virtual machines or clusters of virtual machines. So you think of it as how compute and queries are run. This is billed by the second and understanding when you need seconds of usage at what size of warehouse is one of the aspects of Snowflake that you need to master in order to get the best value from it. Considerations like pausing the warehouse when it's not in use or setting it to auto pause is important to understand. So you have to understand your workload basically. The virtual warehouse, when used correctly, is flexible and scalable. And the key to understanding it is using the tools.
