How to use exponentiation (powers and roots) in Excel formulas

- [Instructor] In Excel, sometimes you need 2 to raise numbers to a power. 3 We often square numbers, cube them, raise them 4 to the fourth power and so on. 5 At other times, you want to go essentially 6 in the opposite direction by getting the square root 7 of a number or the cube root of a number 8 or the fourth root and so on. 9 And we've got a couple of functions 10 and also a carrot symbol that we can use 11 for these calculations. 12 In column A, I've got some numbers, 13 I want to get the square root. 14 There's a function, SQRT, the square root 15 of the data in A3, 181. 16 There it is. 17 Could have used a different function called power. 18 Now this is more likely to be associated 19 with raising numbers to a power, 20 but I think many of you know mathematically we can say we 21 want to take this number 181 22 and raise it to the 1/2 power. 23 That might sound odd to some people. 24 We're not too…
