- [Narrator] Microsoft has introduced two new, powerful Excel functions, GROUPBY and PIVOTBY. They're similar in nature. And the PIVOTBY function. by the way, does not necessarily require any pre-knowledge of how a pivot table works, although it could be helpful. We're going to first focus on the GROUPBY function and its capability. In this worksheet that we're looking at here, we've got 700 rows of data. It's currently sorted by department. We simply want to know, at least initially, how many contract people there are, hourly people, and so on. We see a list here created manually. If we didn't know anything about this new function, we'd be using a function called COUNTIF. Relatively simple to use here. COUNTIF is saying I'm looking in these cells here all the way down to row 700, to see if they contain contract, full-time, halftime, hourly.
