- Maintaining a base level of respect in your professional setting is essential to leading a successful business. In fact, the Harvard Business Review reported that in a survey of nearly 20,000 employees worldwide, respondents ranked respect as the single most important leadership behavior in the workplace. But we can't instill a culture of respect at work that is inclusive of our LGBTQ+ colleagues if we aren't familiar with LGBTQ+ terminology. So if you've ever struggled with LGBTQ+ vocab, no worries. I certainly have. Give yourself grace and know that I've got your back. Let's start with the basics. LGBTQ+ stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer or questioning individuals. The plus sign acknowledges the countless other identities that are out there. That's why we sometimes see longer variations of the acronym, like LGBTQIA or even LGBTQPIA2S+.
