The Corporate Controller will report directly into the CFO and will lead all aspects of accounting, tax, payroll, annual financial audits and internal management reporting, including accounting operations, financial reporting, acquisition due diligence and integration support, budget support, risk mitigation and financial controls/governance. The individual will direct the monthly close process to ensure accurate, timely (monthly, quarterly, annually) and complete financial statements are produced in accordance with US GAAP as well as with all local and federal tax and other regulations and statutes. Additionally, s/he will be monitoring and assessing on-going internal business processes to push for efficiency, automation and accuracy of financial reporting. This will also include building out shared services for our branch-based businesses, including new acquisitions. S/He will be responsible to lead the day-to-day accounting function: accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, general ledger accounting, tax, balance sheet reconciliations, month end close, standardization of processes, purchase accounting, and lender covenant deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Guide financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.
  • Lead annual audit process with external auditors and state and local audits as required.
  • Provide comprehensive financial updates to senior managers by evaluating, analyzing, and reporting appropriate data points.
  • Key participant, as well as advisor, in various system implementations across the organization.
  • Maximize efficiency and timeliness of information through innovative process improvement.
  • Establish (in coordination with CFO) financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring, and reporting standards on weekly, monthly, and annual basis.
  • Implement consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures across all programs, adhering to national and local legal standards while remaining knowledgeable of proposed accounting standards.
  • Management/Leadership Manage all aspects of accounting (as indicated above).
  • Create, maintain and enforce a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and improve overall controls and governance, measuring business risk and implementing strategies and actions to mitigate such risk.
  • Oversee daily transactional activities.
  • Advise on financial analyses and decision-making regarding capital investments, pricing, contract negotiations, significant costs, benchmarks, and other matters with management.
  • Define, benchmark and implement operational best practices, maximizing utilization of technology/systems.
  • Hire, train, mentor and retain best in class talent. Ensure team has the capability and capacity to function at the highest levels.
  • Act as thought partner to CFO and other leaders in the organization.
  • Key player with regards to acquisitions (due diligence) and integration activities.
  • Reporting Issue timely and complete financial statements monthly, quarterly and annually.
  • Coordinate the preparation of the corporate annual audited financials.
  • Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations.

Introduce and monitor financial and operational metrics.

  • Assist in the management and production of the annual budget and periodic forecasts.
  • Calculate variances from the budget and reports significant issues to management.
  • Provide financial analyses as needed, particularly for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
  • Develop relevant KPI’s that aid in meeting the strategic objectives of the company.
  • Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit.
  • Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants.
  • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.

Near term actions/desired outcomes (First 60 days)

  • Assess current financial reporting processes to identify gaps and risks, as well as near term actions to mitigate as necessary.
  • Thorough review of the balance sheet(s) and correction/adjustment of figures as applicable; implementation of corrective actions to avoid similar issues going forward.
  • Engagement with divisional controllers to review and assess revenue recognition procedures, including enhancement of underlying tools and processes.
  • Develop and implement the necessary processes, procedures and infrastructure required to attain accurate financial reporting and significantly reduce month-end closing cycles for the organization, which results in unlocking the opportunity to use this data to provide insights across the company.
  • Talent assessment of key finance personnel, including initiation of weekly 1:1’s with direct reports. Quickly work to remediate any talent gaps.
  • Preparation for transfer of Payroll function from HR to accounting.
  • Participate in any ongoing / new due diligence of potential acquisitions. Familiarize oneself with current integration playbook and status of recent acquisition integrations.
  • Initiate discussions with key stakeholders outside of accounting/finance to determine where pain points are related to accounting function.
  • Engage with external tax advisors on 2023 returns and ensure timely and accurate completion.
  • Familiarization of business through visits to branch(es) and job sites.
