Positions Needed: 1

Work schedule : Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Performs skilled crafts and trades work leading tile, granite, and other flooring, wall, and countertop demolition, removal, remodeling, renovation, and installation projects for the Facilities Maintenance section of Public Works.

Job Description

Participates as a member of the team responsible for repair, renovation, and remodeling projects for County owned and maintained facilities. Responsible for meeting with internal customers to determine scope of work and plan renovation projects of County facilities. Performs measurements, material and labor estimates, orders supplies and equipment necessary to complete projects, and invoices customers at completion of project. Maintains inventory of stock supplies, including plumbing, carpentry, and electrical materials. Measures, cuts, and installs tile, marble, granite, and other materials on floors, walls, and countertops. Removes tile cement and grout and applies, seals, and cleans tile cement and grout as necessary. Conducts post-installation inspections to ensure projects are completed properly and to specifications. May be required to assist other skilled trades workers, in drywall, flooring installation, electrical, carpentry, and plumbing projects. Performs related work as required.

Requirements

Job Education and Experience:

Four (4) years of tile installation experience, which includes experience in demolition, remodeling, and construction project oversight. Additional qualifying education and/or experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities may be substituted one for the other on a year for year basis. Commercial and/or industrial experience is preferred. Experience working with and in other trades, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, drywall, or other skilled trade work is preferred.

Must possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida Driver's license and maintain said license during the term of employment. Must be able to properly wear and utilize all required personal protective equipment (PPE). Must be able to successfully pass a Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) background check administered by the Brevard County Sheriff's Office. In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Thorough knowledge of the tools and equipment utilized in commercial building repair, remodeling, renovation, demolition, and installation of tile, walls, countertops, and fixtures.

Thorough knowledge of the techniques and practices of countertop and tile repair, removal, remodeling, and installation. Thorough knowledge of the techniques and practices utilized in applying, sealing, cleaning of tile cement and grout. Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of customer service. Good knowledge in the use of personal computers, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, or other similar software. Good knowledge in the use of an electronic inventory and work order system.

Good knowledge of basic arithmetic Good knowledge of basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and related trades work.

Good knowledge of project and budgetary management, including project estimating and budget development.

Good knowledge of and the ability to interpret and ensure compliance with current Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and other safety practices relating to building demolition, repair, renovation, and maintenance.

Good knowledge of the laws and regulations relating to public facilities.

Ability to learn and utilize SAP for work order processing and billing.

Ability to safely and effectively operate the hand and power tools utilized in renovation and remodeling projects.

Ability to accurately measure project areas; perform mathematical calculations; and prepare materials, labor, and cost estimates.

Ability to clean off excess tile cement, grout, and conduct thorough post-installation inspections to identify issues.

Ability to read and interpret drawings, plans, and work specifications.

Ability to prepare and maintain complete and accurate written and electronic records.

Ability to order supplies and maintain stock inventory.

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, management, employees from other departments, public officials, vendors and contractors, and members of the general public.

Ability to multi-task and organize and prioritize assigned work.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Ability to direct the work of others.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This is heavy physical work, which requires the ability to lift and carry fifty (50) pounds and stoop, bend, kneel, and stand for long periods of time.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and may involve exposure to dirt, dust, noise, odors, hazardous chemicals, and inclement weather.
