Texas Health and Human Services Commission requires the services of 1 Technical Writer 2

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain user and technical documentation, including project process documentation for application teams.
  • Translate user views and technical concepts into clear, logical procedures and documentation.
  • Write and edit a variety of technical documents such as articles, reports, brochures, and manuals.
  • Coordinate the display of graphics and document production.

Additional Details

  • Perform advanced technical writing tasks under the Section Director’s guidance.
  • Oversee the review, evaluation, composition, and editing of technical documents.
  • Engage in business analysis, process planning, and policy development.
  • Coordinate projects and team activities to achieve section goals.
  • Analyze operations and issues, prepare reports with findings and recommendations.
  • Develop procedures and workflows with minimal supervision.

Specific Duties

  • 30%: Conduct detailed studies, define problems in administrative practices, and provide business process improvement recommendations.
  • 25%: Develop management and workflow reporting tools, compile and analyze statistical information.
  • 20%: Track the development and approval of business processes and systems, coordinate with staff in discovery, development, and implementation.
  • 20%: Develop workflow procedures, provide training and technical assistance.
  • 5%: Perform other duties, including participation in disaster response or COOP activation, which may require alternate shifts or locations.

Knowledge And Skills

  • Business and management principles, project management practices, computer systems, and data visualization tools.
  • Ability to conduct business and system analysis, develop goals and procedures, write and present complex information, and solve problems.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work collaboratively and independently.

This position requires a combination of technical writing expertise, business analysis skills, and the ability to manage and improve business processes.

  • 4yrs - Required - Business analysis, process planning, and agency policy
  • 4yrs - Required - Project Management practices, principles, and processes
  • 4yrs - Required - Knowledge of computer systems, data systems, processes, and visualization tools;
  • 4yrs - Preferred - Develop and evaluate policies, standards and procedures
  • 4yrs - Preferred - Experience with Public Administration
  • 4yrs - Preferred - Organizing and presenting complex information to a variety of audiences verbally and in writing

Work hours and location:

  • Services shall be provided during normal business hours unless otherwise coordinated through the Agency. Normal business hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m., excluding Texas state holidays when the agency is closed.
  • The primary work location will be 1100 W 49TH ST, Austin, Texas 78757.
  • Position will be 100% On-Site. Candidates must be within the Metro Area in Austin, TX or any surrounding cities.
  • This position is not remote nor hybrid. (LOCALS ONLY)
