Overview

We're looking for a Senior Researcher to join us on the GitHub Customer Research team! The Customer Research team at GitHub is a core part of the Design organization and works closely with designers, PMs, and data teams. Our job is to help GitHub build the tools and experiences that support the future of software development. As researchers, we love exploring how people behave and learning what motivates them. When we understand customers’ mental models, their team’s workflows, and their organization’s constraints, we can build amazing products that our customers value and love.

Responsibilities

  • Creates and drives plans for research studies and/or programs for a product.
  • Shares insights in a way that is easy to understand to activate design and engineering processes from insights for a product, product line, or service.
  • Develops programs for participation in research for a product, product line, or service. Influences platform level decisions on data collection instrumentation. Performs planning, coordinating, and executing larger scale customer learning events.
  • Collaborate closely with design, product management, and engineering leads to prioritize research opportunities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Present research findings with a compelling presentation and communication style.
  • Drive alignment in the cross-functional teams you work with - Who’s the target customer? What problems do they most need to solve?
  • Coach and support PMs and designers in doing their own day-to-day customer conversations and prototype evaluations

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years experience in User Experience Research
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors Engineering, Computer Science, Technical Communications, Information Science, Information Architecture, User Experience Design, Behavioral Science, Social Sciences, or related field AND 5+ years experience in user experience research
    • OR Master's Degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors Engineering, Computer Science, Technical Communications, Information Science, Information Architecture, User Experience Design, Behavioral Science, Social Sciences, or related field AND 3+ years experience in user experience research
    • OR Doctorate in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors Engineering, Computer Science, Technical Communications, Information Science, Information Architecture, User Experience Design, Behavioral Science, Social Sciences, or related field AND 1+ year(s) experience in user experience
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years experience in research methods impacting both product direction and detailed experience design.
  • 3+ years relevant domain experience within the software development sector.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant domain experience with developer tools
  • Experience with quantitative research methods
  • Familiarity with GitHub, programming, or the ability to quickly self-teach

Compensation Range

The base salary range for this job is USD $89,200.00 - USD $236,600.00 /Yr.

These pay ranges are intended to cover roles based across the United States. An individual's base pay depends on various factors including geographical location and review of experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant. At GitHub certain roles are eligible for benefits and additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These rewards are allocated based on individual impact in role. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee's role.
