Organizes and leads experiments in the laboratory and controlled environments (greenhouses and growth chambers) for the floriculture crop improvement research lab; completes ethylene measurements from greenhouse industry; conducts product trials with industry stakeholders (budget development, project plan, communication with industry stakeholders, report generation); manages lab communications; manages lab safety requirements; manages floriculture crop improvement lab spaces; manages lab budgets; manages lab webpage; independently collects and analyzes data; develops new methods; assists principal investigator with the preparation of new projects; implements new or revised research methodologies; trains graduate students, technical staff, post-doctoral researchers, undergraduate students, and interns on research methods; trains all incoming staff on lab-specific record keeping, protocols, and safety; maintains laboratory research records; plans, coordinates, and executes experiments needed to reach research goals; coordinates and reviews work of other lab members; procures supplies and reserves research spaces; works with the principal investigator in research and development efforts of new research projects and to develop goals of projects; assists the principal investigator in the preparation of grant proposals; performs independent critical analyses of pertinent literature; presents research results at national and international conferences; authors and co-authors scientific manuscripts, technical publications in collaboration with principal investigator.
Additional Information
Must have MS degree in horticulture or plant pathology and have at least 5-6 years of research experience with a preference of 15 years of experience as outlined:
Must have experience conducting research experiments with ornamental floriculture crops in controlled environments (greenhouses and growth chambers); must have tissue culture experience; must have experience with transformation of ornamental plant species; must have microbiology research experiences; must have experience with microbiome experiment design and data analysis; must have experience with running gas chromatography; must have strong statistical analysis background using R studio; must have experience preparing figures and documents for publication; must have supervisory experience; must have experience procuring supplies, managing laboratory safety requirements, maintaining laboratory equipment.
The salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limit to, education, years of experience, internal equity, etc.
