Purchasing Specialist

Job Description

Located in Akron, Ohio, APV Engineered Coatings is one of the top 25 paint manufacturers in the country. Our purchasing department is responsible for sourcing hundreds of raw materials and factory supplies each year. They also work closely with our sales and laboratory departments to source materials for new and changing formulations. A degree in supply chain management or 1-3 years experience in manufacturing procurement is preferred. An intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office products also preferred.

Main Job Functions:

• Identifies consumption patterns and material requirements.
• Makes purchase recommendations based on use, customer forecasting, supply chain considerations and material specifications.
• Researches products, obtains accurate pricing and delivery information, and determines the best source for various purchases based on price and availability.
• Obtains raw material support documentation from suppliers.
• Compares supplier pricing and identifies cost-saving opportunities.
• Develops and maintains relationships with suppliers, facilitates supplier audits, and performs vendor risk assessments.
• Reviews, edits, and approves purchase order requests.
• Tracks arrival of goods and confers with suppliers concerning late deliveries.
• Prepares, submits, and tracks claims for any return of goods.
• Performs administrative tasks including daily reports.
• Works closely with inventory and manufacturing departments regarding disposal of waste materials and production schedules.
