Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct an immediate search for an experienced Nonprofit Interim Director of Finance (Remote) for our partner, a wonderful financial services nonprofit organization! This incredible role will focus on supporting the growing finance team and leading all day-to-day finance operations while overseeing a small team. This full-time, interim position is for immediate hire and is fully remote.


The ideal candidate will serve as a financial business partner with a strong background in nonprofit finance and should be experienced in driving the monthly close cycle and managing up, down, and laterally to keep the work of a small but mighty finance team running smoothly.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee all financial functions and reporting systems, ensuring adherence to GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Work closely with the legal and compliance team to ensure all transactions comply with IRS and other regulatory requirements, facilitating efficient reporting.
  • Lead the finance team in completing tasks and meeting deadlines related to the monthly close and preparation of monthly and quarterly financial statements, providing necessary support and escalation.
  • Supervise and mentor two full-time staff members, focusing on their professional development and performance.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Team to lead quarterly budget revisions and re-forecasting processes.
  • Oversee the preparation of grant budgets and financial reports and manage the monthly administration of restricted funds.
  • Guide the team through all audit activities and the preparation of the 990, coordinating with external auditors.
  • Work with financial consultants on financial management and compliance matters as needed.
  • Coordinate with the operations team to process bi-weekly payroll.
  • Support the Board Finance Committees by preparing quarterly reports and other requested materials.
  • Develop financial presentations for the Boards and other key stakeholders.



QUALIFICATIONS

  • Extensive nonprofit accounting experience.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Deep knowledge of GAAP as applied to nonprofit organizations.
  • Expert user of Quickbooks Online.
  • Experience using and administering cloud-based tools such as Bill and Expensify.
  • Experience with connected entity structures and/or advocacy organizations required to file federal activity reports.
  • Adaptability for navigating ambiguous situations and evolving priorities with ease.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in maintaining impeccable organization, ensuring meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proficient in strategic systems thinking, adept at orchestrating collaboration among stakeholders for optimal outcomes.
  • Demonstrated success working in a remote environment.
  • CPA is preferred but not required.



COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

In addition to an hourly range of $75-80/hr. (DOE), this role provides medical, dental, vision, and voluntary life insurance, an employee assistance plan (EAP), and commuter and transit benefits for those who are working on average 30 or more hours per week.
