Growing up in a coastal community in Southern California gave me an early appreciation for the importance of protecting the environment, especially the oceans and waterways, and the impact we can all have. Our willingness to take action makes a difference, and it is something I try to prioritize in my life. Our ability to protect these fragile eco-systems sets up a much more sustainable and bright future for generations to come. Just a couple weeks back we observed World Ocean Day, and I participated in one of The Surfrider Foundation's “Beach Cleanup” events a few days later as a small way to give back.  For me, it is a crucial reminder of our shared responsibility to protect the coastlines and oceans.    Additionally, HP released the 2023 Sustainable Impact Report, and I’m excited to share that we’re making substantial progress. We’ve hit the 40% mark in our journey to make our products and packaging more sustainable by 2030. We’re almost halfway to our goal of ensuring what we create is part of a circular economy. By using less packaging in our products, we reduce the pressure on landfills and bodies of water, preventing major issues like the Great Pacific Garbage Patch (https://bit.ly/3VE1pOD). HP is going even further in its sustainability mission by launching our Renewal Solutions Business unit, dedicated to creating offers and programs that enable things like PC refurbishment, and device lifecycle extension capabilities. HP ensures that aging devices meet rigorous quality standards, but more importantly, reduce waste and promote a circular economy. It’s about delivering more value to our customers in their tech investments and enabling our solutions to last longer, so we use less and provide more value to the environment. I am so pumped to finally be able to share the news of the introduction of Cisco Hypershield. The team that worked on it has done such a great job and helped launch the most consequential cybersecurity product we have innovated on in our near 40 year history at Cisco. And the best part is that we're just getting started. Truly EPIC! With AI completely changing the security landscape, we had to fundamentally reimagine security and challenge conventions. With a highly distributed world, its clear it can’t just be the next generation of something that already exists. It must be the first generation of something completely new. It solves some of the hardest problems that this industry has struggled with for decades. At Cisco, we believe in the power of technology to drive positive change – not just for our business, but for the planet. As we observe #EarthDay, I’m proud to share an inspiring blog post by my colleague, Charu Adesnik, Executive Director, Cisco Foundation, highlighting several organizations whose work aligns to Cisco’s corporate environmental sustainability strategy.   Take Jaza Energy, an organization revolutionizing clean energy access in Tanzania and Nigeria with solar hubs, creating sustainable alternatives to kerosene and generators. This not only illuminates thousands of homes but also empowers local communities, particularly women, through economic opportunities.   Another compelling story is about Green Wolf Costa Rica (GWCR). Through education, activation efforts, and the creation of sustainable souvenirs, GWCR transforms beach waste into opportunities while fostering resilience in vulnerable communities. Since 2019, GWCR has removed over 70 tons of beach waste and planted hundreds of trees in collaboration with community and corporate volunteers.   And then there’s Human-I-T. Through innovative solutions and a dedication to digital equity, this organization has made significant strides in connecting students and their households with the technology they need to thrive in an increasingly digital world. In 2023 alone, Human-I-T distributed 60,000 devices to communities across the United States, trained 5,000 people with digital literacy skills, and diverted 3.4 million pounds of e-waste from landfills.    Incredible. I often talk about the criticality of public/private partnerships, and how – together – we can better address environmental and social issues. These initiatives resonate deeply with our values at Cisco and the Cisco Foundation, as we strive to create a healthier tomorrow.   #EarthDay #Sustainability #SocialImpact #WeAreCisco
