Gotta love being ambushed by the one and only 💯 Jim Marous from The Financial Brand in Vegas for a rapid fire set of questions! This was my quick thinking answer to the biggest challenges and opportunities our industry faces and how Tyfone, Inc. is solving them. Opportunity: Community FIs are the lifeblood of the financial health, stability, and futures of every day Americans. People need good partners in finances now more than ever. They need banking with a heart and that's exactly what CFIs offer. People are begging to do business with local, with organizations connected to their communities, and with organizations that care about corporate social responsibility. CFIs have an opportunity to not only capture market share during this time, but at the same time to provide real value to consumers financial lives. Challenge: Actually doing that! Consumers are attracted/distracted by "shiny objects". Get rich quick with crypto or tik toks "financial advice". Fintechs and big banks are aggressively marketing to them with flashy tech. It's hard to stand out and compete in that market but if you do nothing, you will both lose relevance in the digital age and consumers will lose the benefits listed above in my opportunity thoughts. How's Tyfone helping: You need real partners. Not fluff and stuff partners. Not people who say it and dont mean it. Inside look: Synchrony’s AI training strategy Synchrony Financial is investing in training its employees on emerging technology, with a focus on AI and automation.  Training options include “technology certifications mapped to critical skills in areas like cybersecurity, software engineering and UX design,” Tim Christensen, senior vice president of product, digital, innovation and AI at Synchrony, told Bank Automation News. Courtesy/Bloomberg The $117 billion financial institution offers skills tuition and debt-free tuition up to $24,000 annually, and up to $9,000 annually for technology certifications, according to a recent release from Synchrony.  Christensen said Synchrony offers the following training:  Apprenticeship Program: A full-time, 12-month program that allows employees with non-traditional backgrounds to learn and develop skills within technology;  Veterans Leadership Program: A 13-month skills and experience training in cybersecurity and data analytics to a class of veterans;  Business Leadership Program: A two-year rotational program that offers training in tech and operations; and  University Partnerships: Agreements with University of Illinois, University of Connecticut and Syracuse University to help students train in AI, data science and other emerging technologies.  “We are responsibly training and hiring our teams to ensure we have the right skills in place to succeed, especially around the use of AI and automation, along with many other emerging technologies,” Christensen said.  Aligning with innovation Synchrony’s investment in tech training for its more than 20,000 employees aligns with its innovation strategy, Christensen said.   “Our focus on AI, and especially generative AI, is driving a need to both upskill existing talent and bring in new external talent, not just in technology, but across other functions like product development and governance,” he said.  The FI sees a growing opportunity for AI and automation in finance and is looking to the technology to boost customer experience and overall employee efficiency, he said.  https://lnkd.in/g9AXhJkz via Bank Automation News https://lnkd.in/dwP6ziAm May 24, 2024 at 11:13AM

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’ve been with the company over 13 years. So I started at a a true community bank, a small 45 person, 400,000,400 $50 million bank, and today we are a regional, bordering, regional commercial bank with a presence in New York, New Jersey and South Florida, so I oversee the marketing communications PR, anything with our logo on it for the bank and our other brands, along with innovation, which is really sort of shaping strategies around FinTech partnerships, potential investments and understanding the landscape and where opportunities for connect one exist to partner and obviously work hand in hand with Sharif on that front. I’m the Chief Technology Officer at connect one bank, and I’m responsible for developing and executing our technology strategy, managing our system and data infrastructure and our software development initiatives. I joined connect one bank in 2022 so I’m a youngin in the banking industry, so it’s about two and a half years and before that, I came from the tech world. I actually founded and ran several startups. So it might seem a little odd that I come from the startup world to a bank, and the that journey really started with getting to know connect one bank and its entrepreneurial culture that was completely embodied by our founder and CEO, Frank sontino, he’s, he’s, he’s a builder. And that translates into, you know, the culture of the bank and the way it operates as an entrepreneur, sort of an entrepreneur organization, serving our clients in that way. A Fast-Expanding Clover Provides a Hot Engine for Growth at Fiserv! Fiserv Inc. has been an #acquisitive #payments #processor in recent years, but it’s a deal the company concluded nearly five years ago that is energizing growth at the company. Fiserv’s $22-billion acquisition of #First Data Corp. in the summer of 2019 brought #Clover, a set of point-of-sale #technologies that today are doing much to drive #revenue #growth at the Milwaukee, Wis.-based company. And now Fiserv’s top brass is twisting open that revenue spigot. “We are launching multiple new Clover products this year,” Fiserv’s chief executive, Frank Bisignano, declared early Tuesday while speaking to #equity analysts. The new #products will include a new Clover device, he said, that will arrive by mid-year. With the volume the Clover system is racking up, the POS system is clearly at the top of the company’s #priority list. It accounted for enough #payment volume in the first quarter to reach $274 billion in #annualized volume, up 19% from the same #quarter last year, according to numbers the company #released early Tuesday. Fiserv doesn’t report Clover’s revenue, but early Tuesday it said this metric had risen 30% in the quarter year-over-year. Partly because of Clover’s growth, Fiserv reported its #merchant #solutions unit had notched $2.25 billion in March-quarter revenue, up 13% from the same period last year. Revenue from #small #businesses accounted for two-thirds of the at revenue and grew at a 16% rate, Fiserv reported. For the quarter, Fiserv recorded adjusted revenue of $4.54 billion, up 7%, while #organic #revenue—revenue apart from recently acquired properties—grew 20%. Financial institutions are struggling to meet Gen Z where it is, with products, experiences, and messaging that resonate with the younger set. That can change if FIs can think more creatively around data, personalization, inter-generational marketing, and other acquisition strategies. Recently, Ravi Govindaraju was featured by American Banker sharing his opinion on the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s decision on Personal Financial Data Rights. One thing Ravi said that resonated with me and the work our teams at Chase do is, “As the CFPB crafts new rules on the treatment of bank customers’ data, it should bear in mind that everyone touching that data must be required to play by the same rules.” This underlines how important it is that all the apps and tools that consumers use to help manage their finances also adopt the regulations of banks, bolstering the importance of consumers’ data remaining safe. At Chase, we’re continuing to build products with more in-house tools for customers to manage their finances. In the meantime, Ravi’s point about encouraging all other financial institutions to implement the same data standards and protocols is paramount, because we also want the tools our customers are currently using (outside of Chase or linked to Chase) to be just as safe. It's a difficult thing in the digital world for banks to attract young consumers — and garner the loyalty of kids while they're young. U.S. Bank has found a promising solution through a partnership with fintech Greenlight. By integrating Greenlight's accounts and services into its own mobile banking app, U.S. Bank aims to attract the next generation of customers while providing valuable financial education and practical money management experience for kids The partnership addresses a critical gap in traditional banking offerings: the lack of transaction accounts for children. With Greenlight's debit card and money app, kids as young as 10 can learn to handle money and transact cashlessly, all while being subject to parental oversight. Parents can set spending limits, monitor transactions, and establish savings goals for their children, fostering financial responsibility from an early age. U.S. Bank sees two key benefits in this partnership. First, it differentiates the bank's "Bank Smartly" accounts, potentially attracting and retaining depositors who value financial education for their children. Second, by engaging with kids through Greenlight, the bank hopes to establish itself as the go-to institution when these young customers are ready for their first checking account. Greenlight's Brandon Horne, general manager of partnerships, emphasizes that the company's bank and credit union partnerships are an additional channel for growth, not a strategic shift. By embedding the parental experience in the bank's app, Greenlight gives financial institutions more ownership in the customer experience and facilitates a smooth transition as kids approach adulthood.
