The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) is meeting TOMORROW, and we need to act fast to make sure they adopt a Proposed Decision with a better, more equitable approach to community solar.   Yesterday, the CPUC issued a revised proposal that removes any reference to PURPA compliance, a step in the right direction, but continues to rely on existing programs that have failed to spur widespread community solar access. This is not the revised decision we were hoping for and it could have devastating effects on California’s Community Solar program. https://lnkd.in/gpbJ-NXW   We will continue to fight for common-sense recommendations to deliver a community solar program Californians deserve.

Other key findings from the poll include: There is consensus among Arizonans that drought and water shortages (87%) and lowering water levels in the Colorado River (84%) are serious issues for the state. 85% of Arizonans believe that new urban developments should be required to prove they have a 100-year water supply. Arizonans overwhelmingly support the needs of Tribal Nations. Almost 9 in 10 (88%) voters believe Tribal nations deserve to have their water rights recognized by state and federal governments. Three in four (76%) say tribes should be able to access all the water on their land. 80% agree urgent action is needed and Arizona should invest now in groundwater management to safeguard our water resources. 92% say funding the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality and the Arizona Department of Water Resources should be a priority for the state. Indigenous communities worldwide safeguard about 80 percent of the world’s remaining biodiversity. Recent changes to California water law created a tool called a Tribal Beneficial Use (TBU) that regional water boards can adopt to allow Tribes a greater say in the stewardship of water resources in their traditional homelands, even without federal recognition or trust land. The TBTBU states that a body of water is critical to a Tribe for ceremonial or subsistence purposes, and allows Tribes a voice in setting water quality standards necessary for those purposes. Adopting these TBUs will give Native people greater ability to protect their waters for ceremonial and subsistence use. The Mono Lake / Kootzaduka’a Tribe is currently advocating for TBUs to protect Mono Lake and its estuaries in their traditional homeland, and you can support them by contacting the Lahontan Regional Water Board and expressing support for the adoption of TBUs. On April 18, the Lahontan Regional Water Board will hold a meeting to take public comments on the Mono Lake proposed TBUs. To estimate Boston’s future risk of extreme weather, such as flooding, policymakers can combine a coarse model’s large-scale predictions with a finer-resolution model tuned to estimate how often Boston will likely experience damaging floods as the climate warms. However, this risk analysis is only as accurate as the predictions from that first coarser climate model. When paired with smaller-scale models to predict specific weather events such as tropical cyclones or floods, the team’s approach produced more accurate predictions for how often specific locations will experience those events over the next few decades, compared to predictions made without the correction scheme. https://bityl.co/PenG
