Nourishing people and the planet.

About us

Whole Foods was founded in 1980 on the belief that where food comes from, and how it’s grown, matters. It meant creating quality standards, working with suppliers who achieve them, and sharing that information with our customers. And it radically changed the way people understood and shopped for food. The result has been the highest quality natural and organic products, an unmatched experience in more than 500+ stores, with a passionate team of over 90,000 team members, 5 percent of our total net profits given back to our communities each year, and millions of customers who put their trust in us every day.

#ICYMI: Huntington Station just joined the party 🎉 Last week we had the pleasure of opening the new 43,916-square-foot store in Long Island, NY — our seventh in the neighborhood. Some of our highlights from the day: 😋 Welcoming more than 300 customers with coffee and pastries from local favorites Sail Away Coffee Co. and Abe's 🚐 Donating a Nourishing our Neighborhoods van to We All We Got, Inc. and filling it with products in our Stuff the Van event to aid their local food rescue efforts 🥕 Stocking aisles with an array of certified organic, conventional and Sourced for Good produce, with more than 11 local farms and suppliers, like Tucker Farms and Cranbury Fields 🍞 Getting well-acquainted with the Bakery department, including local pastry offerings from Balthazar, pita bread from Angel Bakeries and muffins from Abe's 🍺 Browsing the extensive selection of craft beers and local suppliers, such as Money IPA from Barrier Brewing, Sun Up IPA from TALEA Beer Co., and Rose Cider from Sand City Brewing. 💚 Round of applause to all the Team Members, Store Team Leader Luis Alvarado and Associate Store Team Leaders Daniel Metzger and Zearyl Moore for a fun day Read more about the opening day: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gqR8U8Zk #NourishPeople #NourishPlanet #NourishConnection #NourishGrowth #TeamWFM

“I studied finance and economics in college and was immediately drawn to social entrepreneurship, anchored around the concept that business can be a force for good in the world. I began my career working for a fair trade retail start-up in Uganda and moved to Austin to work for a similar, eco-friendly women's retail brand. It was an incredible learning experience to play a role in starting a new business — from operations to production to management. The most rewarding part was directly seeing the impact on the lives of the various artisans who made our products.   After about eight years of working in start-ups, I was ready for a different experience that still championed social impact and immediately saw Whole Foods Market as an ideal place to land. The more I learned about their Purpose to nourish people and the planet, the more excited I got at the prospect of working here. I joined the team in 2018 as a Senior Analyst of Business Process Improvement. I have since learned so much about the organization and how to support change within the business as we took on new challenges, tools and processes. After leading a team of project managers within the Merchandising team, I had the opportunity to move over to Sustainability as the Principal Program Manager. These past two years have perfectly combined my passions and skills: I get to work with brilliant, sincerely wonderful people and help them operationalize their strategies.   I feel so fortunate to have a role that is as stimulating as it is impactful. I get to touch many areas that are material to our impact, from projects on food waste reduction to climate impact within our supply chain to reducing plastic in our stores. We'll be sharing our annual Impact Report next week: It's like a compilation of our 'Greatest Hits' throughout the year, and our teams reflect on the challenges we faced and celebrate all the small and big wins we achieved. I can't wait for everyone to see our collective efforts in building a more sustainable tomorrow!"   - Cameron Crake, Principal Program Manager #Sustainability #NourishPeople #NourishWellbeing #TeamWFM

"My path to Whole Foods Market has been as surprisingly delightful as the products on our shelves. After earning my MBA from Florida A&M, I embarked on a product management odyssey where I focused on refining user experiences. My journey continued through leadership roles at purpose-driven companies where I championed technology in service of daily life to create seamless, delightful moments for customers.   Joining Whole Foods' Digital Product Management team is like joining Team Possible! It’s a canvas to reimagine how we connect people with nutritious food. We're not just enhancing the grocery shopping experience — we're redefining how convenient access to healthy choices can be.   In my short time here, the commitment to sustainability and wellness that permeates every aspect of our operations has resonated with me. It’s thrilling to be at the forefront of a movement that is quite literally energizing. I look forward to integrating Whole Foods' Purpose of nourishing people and the planet into every digital interaction." - Mikal Lewis, Executive Leader of Digital Product Management #Product #NourishPeople #NourishWellbeing #TeamWFM

Anytime we get a chance to see regenerative agriculture in action, we take it. Last fall, a group of our Culture Champions ventured to Fairview, NC, to learn more about the ecological verification process and life on the land with our partner supplier Hickory Nut Gap, a farm focused on putting these regenerative efforts to practice to improve soil, enhance biodiversity, and increase carbon capture. "I came from Mexico City five years ago in 2019 to start my career in the Chappaqua Store as a Team Member in the Meat department. I was a photographer in Mexico City, so I came to Whole Foods Market with little knowledge of meat or the grocery environment. I slowly developed my experience as a Team Member and grew confident enough to assist my leadership. I began Butcher training in 2021, and two years later, I moved to our White Plains store, where I finished the Butcher Apprentice program. A month later, my store leadership promoted me to the Associate Team Leader role in the Meat Department. In my new role, I aided in the Rochester and Jersey City store openings, where I cultivated relationships with some of the experienced Butchers there. I gained tremendous knowledge from them and grew my own cutting skills (I love trimming Tenderloin and Flap Steak). What I like most about being a Butcher is the creativity, how I delight and satisfy our customers and sharing my craft with my son, teaching him the skills I've gained, like the importance of picking a good steak! The Butcher Apprentice program has allowed me to accelerate my career at Whole Foods. Knowing nothing about meat, becoming a Butcher and ATL are accomplishments I never thought I would achieve. I would love to see more women in the Butcher industry. There is a misconception that only men are capable of this work. It's crucial to demonstrate that women also have outstanding skills in this field. Gender diversity in the workplace is not only ethical, but it also drives innovation and business success. Through my experience, I want to empower women and men to overcome barriers and achieve their goals. It is time to recognize and celebrate the contributions of women in the Butcher industry and the world of work in general. By doing so, we not only promote gender equality but we build a stronger, more sustainable future. I'm privileged to be part of the Whole Foods Market family, where growth and learning opportunities are accessible to all Team Members." - Samantha Ramirez, Meat Associate Team Leader #Apprenticeship #Butcher #NourishPurpose #NourishGrowth #TeamWFM
