About us

For more than 36,000 dedicated public servants, our mission is to provide public safety, promote positive change in offender behavior, reintegrate offenders into society and assist victims of crime. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) is the Lone Star State’s largest state agency and manages more than 146,000 offenders in state prisons, state jails and private correctional facilities that contract with the TDCJ. The agency also provides funding and certain oversight of community supervision and is responsible for the supervision of offenders released from prison on parole or mandatory supervision.

He has held every ranking position at multiple units throughout the state of Texas. Most recently, he held the title of Senior Warden at the Estelle Unit. Mr. Britt is passionate about helping his staff succeed, and creating an environment that fosters growth and helps staff understand the importance of their role.     Mark Rodger has had a distinguished career with TDCJ of over 45 years. He served in various positions including correctional officer, maintenance mechanic and electrician. He has held positions in several divisions including the Correctional Institutions, Facilities, and Manufacturing and Logistics. ⚙️ Rodger’s hardworking attitude has remained steadfast throughout his tenure. His continued commitment to make a positive difference is reflected through his experience over the years.   • Please join us in congratulating Region III Director Maricia Jackson on her retirement after more than 30 years of service to the state of Texas. 🌟 Mrs. Jackson began her career with TDCJ in November 1992 as a Correctional Officer at the Polunsky Unit. In January 2010, she promoted to Assistant Warden at the Pam Lychner State Jail/Kegan Intermediate Sanction Facility Complex. By July 2014, Mrs. Jackson promoted to Senior Warden at the Hightower Unit where she served until transitioning to the Senior Warden position at the Plane State Jail/Henley State Jail Complex. In September of 2020, Ms. Jackson promoted to the role of Region III Director, where she held oversight of 18 units. Throughout her career, she tackled many obstacles head-on, never wavering in her commitment to the agency and staff. Her strong moral character and ability to visualize the agency’s mission and convey it to those under her leadership have made her a critical asset to this agency. In 2019, Mrs. Jackson was recognized with the Criminal Justice Administrator of the Year award during the Governor’s Criminal Justice Volunteer Service Awards. On behalf of the agency, we want to thank Mrs. Jackson for her dedication, hard work, and commitment. We wish her all the best in her retirement. #TDCJ #corrections #retirement

  • Officer Anthony Mejia began his career with TDCJ in 2018, starting as a correctional officer at the Lopez Unit.
