Cotton Ashley Award 2024 I asked Benny to talk about Cotton for me at the forum. Thanks for sharing and congratulations on winning Benny. 'You are a man we can depend on.' -MJ From Benny Havard - Cotton Ashley Background:   I met a man in 2002 at Mill Creek in Louisville, KY. It was my first inspecting job with TEiC and he had asked me to take a look at some welds that he had made on top of the penthouse. He told me, "Mark anything you find and I'll fix it". He did.   Through talking to him I found out he was the Superintendent, and his name was Cotton. I've found, in over 37 years of construction that the "That's not my job" people never go anywhere. Cotton was the "gold standard" in doing more than just "his job". He was the hardest worker that I have ever seen. If we were shorthanded getting water to the people, he carried water. Lights, electrical, rigging, prepping equipment, disposal equipment, anything that had to be done, he would do it.   Cotton was a man you could depend on. A short sentence but how important it is, "He was a man you could depend on."   After Cotton’s passing, my son, who had only worked 4 jobs with us at the time, all for Cotton, said tearfully, "I guess TEiC will have to close the doors, now that Cotton's gone." I was proud for Cotton that someone who had known him for such a short time realized what he meant to the company.   His pastor told a story at his funeral that I thought was the perfect example of Cotton.  "The church needed a pipe moved from the grounds in order to build a new building. Cotton told him "I'll handle that." The pastor said he started to tell Cotton how he thought that it could be done. Cotton stopped him and said, "Preacher, you handle the preaching and I'll handle the excavating." The next morning the piping was removed, the grounds cleared and ready by the time he arrived.   We all leave a testimony here after we leave. Cotton is remembered by this great award TEiC presents to another deserving individual. To me, it's the best award you could possibly receive. 2024 vs 2015 TEiC Safety Forum Big thanks for all of the energy Garrison Wynn brought to the stage last week as part of the Influencing Safety presentation he delivered the first morning. It was a fast paced, captivating delivery of very relevant information. Well done sir! We have grown a lot in the last 10 years and we will continue to do so over the next 10 powered by the incredibly talented people here at TEiC and with the tremendous support of Babcock Power. If you didn't get to join us, don't worry we're coming to a power plant or industrial facility near you. We'll see you there!
