By 2034, the U.S. Census Bureau projects older Americans will outnumber the country’s children for the first time in history. Today's senior care is already complex. In the next decade, we’re going to need a more practical, comprehensive model of care. That’s why Humana is transforming senior care with innovative approaches like Medicare Advantage and value-based care—a model that provides patient-centered, outcome-based care to lower costs and help our members live their healthiest lives. Humana Medicare Advantage patients with value-based care providers saw 30 percent fewer hospital admissions compared to those enrolled in traditional Medicare. Advancing interoperability is an essential part of how we do business at Humana. We know that the better our systems, software and services talk to one another, the more we can focus on creating better experiences for our members. Our integrated approach starts with value-based care—which not only gives members better access to care, but it also allows doctors to spend more time with each patient, leading to better health outcomes. And, integrated care simplifies communication among doctors’ offices, payers and members, creating better value for all. Service members and military veterans are an important part of Humana. Not only do we have nearly 6 million active-duty military and retirees among our members, we make a special effort to hire from within military communities. In 2011, we launched the Veterans Hiring Initiative with the objective to provide opportunities to veterans and their spouses. Since then, we've hired more than 6,000 people and counting. We're thankful for the skills and experience that current and former members of the military and their spouses bring to Humana. It’s National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month—a time to raise awareness and address the disparities in mental healthcare access and support in minority communities in prioritizing their mental well-being. We know mental health is an important part of overall well-being, yet many people from racial and ethnic minority groups face barriers to accessing the care they need, such as lack of health insurance, limited diversity among providers, financial strain, and stigma. Humana is committed to supporting an equitable healthcare system so that every person gets the opportunity to reach their full health potential. That includes things like expanding access to Humana Community Navigator®, our tool that connects members with free and low-cost resources like medical care, healthy foods, and employment support. And in 2023, we contributed $10 million in community investments to support and fund equity-focused programs. Mental healthcare is healthcare, and we are raising awareness about the need for equitable access to quality mental healthcare for all our members during National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month.     “Minority communities often face higher rates of mental health conditions but are less likely to receive mental health treatment,” said Dr. J. Nwando Olayiwola, MD, MPH, Chief Health Equity Officer & SVP. “There is a significant need for expanded mental healthcare among all Americans, but access to timely and quality mental healthcare among minority communities in the United States is even more dire.” Learn more about how Humana has developed tailored programs and resources to meet the unique mental health needs of minority populations in Dr. Olayiwola’s latest article. #MentalHealth #MinorityHealth #HealthEquity

Medicare Advantage helps advance health equity and access to healthcare by serving more beneficiaries of color, especially those with higher social risk factors. The majority of Latino and Black Medicare beneficiaries choose MA coverage over traditional fee-for-service Medicare. And, Latino and Black Medicare beneficiaries are more likely to be dually eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid, a group that tends to have complex social risk factors that are key drivers in health disparities, such as food insecurity and lower home ownership rates.
