In an unprecedented move, fashion creator Sydney Nicole Gifford is suing another creator Alyssa Sheil for copyright infringement. The lawsuit alleges that Sheil replicated multiple Instagram and TikTok posts, copying Gifford's "unique" online brand. Gifford is asking for $30,000 to $150,000 in damages for "mental anguish" and loss of income, according to the lawsuit filed in April. She's also seeking a preliminary injunction that would force Sheil to take down the alleged replicated content. I spoke about this first-of-its-kind case with lawyers who represent creators, who explained that this could set a new legal precedent for the creator economy if Gifford wins. "This could change the game, honestly," lawyer Kameron Buckner said. "I've been waiting for something like this to happen because we need some type of law that's just for creators." However, it will be hard for Gifford to prove her case given how often creators draw inspiration from each other, lawyer Taylor Tieman said. "They have to show that whenever a user views content with this kind of branding, they only think of one specific creator — Gifford — but I see this kind of minimal, neutral tone aesthetic all the time," she said. "Even I use it." Where have all the hedge fund superstars gone? The days of investors trusting a star hedge-fund manager with their cash are in the rearview mirror, writes Business Insider's Linette Lopez. Unlike years ago, hedge funds are no longer the only game in town for institutions or the ultra-wealthy looking to park their cash somewhere. Venture capital, private credit, and private equity have grown considerably over the past decade. And the big names that remain in the industry are starting to resemble Wall Street banks in their size and complexity. More on Business Insider #hedgefunds #wallstreet #investing
