Great work, Trevor! it is a great career. I am fortunate to work with some amazing electricians. Baker Electric, Inc.
💵$4,846,363 if you start at 18. 🤑 Or 💵$3,180,924 if you start at 23. 😮 During a financial literacy unit, I chatted with some high school pre-apprentices about compounding interest. Why? To emphasize the benefit of starting their apprenticeship as soon as possible. In order to help students better understand this concept, we decided to compare an 18-year old student, like many of them, starting their electrical apprenticeship to someone, like myself, who was 23-years old when starting their apprenticeship. It can’t be that much? After all, it is just 5 years, right? First off, the exact amount any one person will actually make over their career cannot be determined. But, for demonstration purposes, we used current wage and benefit rates and historic averages to make some assumptions. These assumptions are listed below: • These two people will spend the first 5 years as apprentices, before making the journey level benefits for the rest of their career. • The two individuals both start with $7,000 in contributions, received as apprentices. • Both will work until 62 Years of age. • They will receive a contribution of $8.50 per hour ($1,416 per month, based on a 40-hour work week) • Neither will receive increases to their contributions during their entire career. (You absolutely will receive increases to wages and benefits!) • They will receive an 8% annual return on their contributions. • Their contributions will be compounded monthly. So, after making these assumptions, what the students determined was that an apprentice who started at age 18 would have $4,846,363 in their 401k, for their 39 years of work. And, the apprentice who started at age 23 would have $3,180,924 in their 401k, after working for 34 years. The difference between these two is $1,665,439 dollars! It’s just 5-years, right? 🤯 Understandably, the students were actually shocked by both numbers. But more importantly, they realized how important getting started right after high school is and how it is one of the best ways to truly impact your future and generate wealth. So, when is the best time to start your apprenticeship? Right now! #electricalapprenticeship #earnwhileyoulearn #apprenticeship #compoundinginterest #nobettertimethannow
