Last week, my awesome colleague Sarah Haggen Hammann, brought to my attention this amazing article written by Soraya Alexander where she spoke about redefining the word community and how we use it in our sector. The irony is, that our Development team has been engaging in many conversations about how we're rebuilding Ada Developers Academy by establishing impactful corporate partnerships and building community across all of our constituents. This was also reflected in a lovely conversation with Classy's very own Michelle Boggs, MBA, CFRE, who graciously took a meeting with us to learn all about Ada and dove right into where the organization is now after having suffered three rounds of layoffs due to the tech downturn. Michelle not only saw us for who we are as an organization but, for the value that we bring to so many women, BIPOC and gender expansive adult learners and volunteers. So, Michelle offered resources and her availability for us to connect whenever we liked because she saw how authentic we were about our challenges, successes and the vision we had about surrounding ourselves with community in order to build forward. That my friends is building community. That...is Classy! -Maria D. Sr. Director of Philanthropy, Ada

Less than 25% of software developers are women. Given the structural and social barriers, it is no surprise that WOC are more severely underrepresented. Tuition-free programmes such as Ada Developers Academy are leading the work to change the face of tech by attracting and retaining the highest potential students regardless of financial means. After participating in Ada Build Live, a 6-week virtual series led by staff who review the Python Programming Fundamentals curriculum with students, I highly recommend ADA. My favourite bits: 🌟 My instructors. Ashley Yang and Mikelle Wade created a safe space to make 'silly' questions 📚 Coding live sessions. Self paced learning is a must in programming. But it is equally important to build confidence when explaining your own code. 🤝 Diversity. Problem-solving in teams with folx from diverse paths and at different stages in their Python journey takes the learning process to the next level. 🌐 Global accessibility. For the LIVE series, you are not required to be a US resident. #EdTechforAll 🚀

Despite the distance that separates our staff, there's an undeniable magic in uniting for team-building activities. While we are out on break this week, here's a throwback to our recent team retreat. We spent some time exploring Pike Place Market and discovered some hidden gems around Seattle, all under the brilliance of a sunny day, following a morning filled with knowledge sharing and learning.

Ada Developers Academy reposted this
I can say a million positive things about Adies, our nickname for Ada Developers Academy alums 💜. This community is truly inspiring. One our our Adies, Sage C., shared her journey into programming with the encouragement of Sarah Morris from Audere, an equitable care nonprofit that is definitely worth your attention. Now, more than ever, tech leaders have to be intentional about pouring into and investing in women, gender-expansive folks, BIPOC, neurodiverse individuals, and other folks who are walking the untraditional path into tech. Thank you, Sarah, for leading by example. If you have a moment this weekend, I encourage you to read Sage's story and share it with others who might find inspiration in her words as I did. 💜 A heartfelt thanks to the extraordinarily dedicated team of educators and professionals I have the privilege of working alongside. Their daily contributions enrich our community immeasurably: Charmara Mays, Sylvia A., Adrian M. Prado, Kelsey Steven, Mikelle Wade, Daniel Chan, Ashley Yang, Ansel Rognlie, among many others who have contributed throughout the years.
A not-so-short reflection of my journey and relationship with programming. I hope you enjoy reading it!
