I am a firm believer Life Cycle Assessment approachs for the Societal and Environmental aspects of the Triple Bottom Line and determine economic sustainability with a well planned total life cycle cost (TLCC) assessment. LCA should be performed within the guidelines of ISO 14040 (latest version). I urge the team performing the effort to choose databases and inputs very carefully, to have well defined boundaries, and priorities as established by the key stakeholders. LCA and TLCC can easily be misused to provide a biased user any result they desire. I urge a strong peer review component be included for quality assurance/quality control to ensure the outcomes best serve the environment and the public interests.

Operational cost considerations have already been pushing the projects to their maximum possible efficiency limits and additional improvements are hard to achieve without significant investments. GHG emissions would be a better KPI in this regard as it would encompass other options such as green credits, post emission abatement etc.

When we say Biodiversity conversation it involves Protection , Management and restoration of our ecosystem. Biodiversity conservation should start from our family and friends. If a company has found a resource and has the funds, Environment Impact Assessment reports can be churned to favour them with certain guidelines and regulations. With absolute sustainability, you are trying to ensure that the people of the community have the capacicapacity to meet their needs using their time and skills, and the energy, ecological functions, and critical resources coming from the land, air and water that they are co-stewards of, in perpetuity.
