A modern metroidvania with souls-like elements like difficulty, methodic boss battles and soul system.
The art is simply superb, blending 2D and 3D flawlessly, with a beautiful and detailed world. The music is also absolutely top notch. The controls are precise, some of the best I've ever seen in 2D games.
My only problem with this game was the exploration: by giving too much freedom and places to go all at once, it was pretty common for me to run all around the world, finding progress wall after progress walls because I hadn't unlocked the required upgrades yet. The result was constant backtracking, and so many pins (markers) on the map that you eventually lose control of what is what - leading to more backtracking when you get an upgrade and have to revisit every pin on the map to see if it was the progress wall fit for your recent upgrade. I got lost many times, and at almost all of them I felt that it was the level design's fault, not mine.
In short, Hollow Knight is a fantastic game, with top notch art direction, but packed with some dubious level design choices here and there that will make you lose time and patience - and because of that some will drop the game out of sheer frustration.
P.s: seasoned Metroidvania and Soulsborne player here.

Hands down the best Mega Drive RPG of all time. Great story, which has ton of references to previous games and is told by great manga-like slideshows, awesome combat with 5 characters, group attacks and vehicle combat, lots of worlds and dungeons to explore... I could go on for hours. This is the very best that Mega Drive has to offer.

The game lasted 4 hours, and 30min of them were in the credits.
If you are into 100% the games you play, then you might have fun here because there are tons of hidden red rings to collect and unlock a few contents, but otherwise it's a super short game with zero to no difficulty and a lazy porting with Nintendo Wii sub 720p cutscenes.

RE4 was a master craft back when it released to Gamecube, and this remake managed to top one of the best games ever created.
Following the formula of the previous remakes, but without losing the essence of the original RE4, the remake is tense, fast paced, action packed, gorgeous and, ultimately, fun, constantly reminding us that it is indeed a videogame, with goofy, absurd and hollywood-esque setpieces that could only happen inside a Resident Evil game.

Although this fps/hack n slash has an impressively tight and fun gameplay and combat, and it's admirable that it was done mostly by a single person, the truth is that its story is absolute nonsensical and bleak, and the 2 hour-long gameplay of repetitive level design makes it very hard to recommend. It felt like a long Ray tracing tech demo rather than a full game.

I can't believe how long I've lived without playing Alan Wake.
This game absolutely deserves its cult classic title. Absolutely phenomenal writing, with a mystery that lingers in the air from the first hour up to the very last second of it, and the plot does a stellar job at keeping the player on the edge always craving for answers.
With rewarding collectibles to find, a tense atmosphere through and through and a great sound direction, I can say with ease that it's one of the best horror games ever made. Of course it has its flaws, like a repetitive combat pattern and lack of enemy variety, but the amazing writing compensates for that. The remaster also fixed some rough edges from the original game from what I've seen online.
Top it all with Remedy's quirky and playful direction for some goofy and interesting side contents and Alan Wake becomes a game worth playing even a decade after its original release.

This game has everything to work, but it was severely limited by its hardware.
The PSVR doesn't allow free movement due to its tracking by camera mechanics, and having to be constantly using the controls to turn around made it impossible for me to keep playing due to severe motion sickness. I'm pretty sure this game would be a 9 if I played it on Meta quest.

At the first minute you get a glimpse of what this game could've been: a brilliant VR co-op version of Time crisis.
Then it goes downhill pretty fast when you realize that there's no story, art is absolutely generic, the game is just a gigantic cover and shoot gallery with clunky controls, barely no weapons to use, no gameplay twists, the same enemy model appearing over and over... I see zero reasons to play this game unless you're playing with a friend, and even so it'll be a mediocre experience for both of you.

An absolute master class in world building, open world and level design. There's always a reward for you, be it exploring the gigantic world or battling. It's the most accessible souls borne game yet, with hundreds of weapons and available play styles. Quite possibly one of the best games ever made.
The sheer amount of content might be intimidating for some, but if you're into open world games, this is as good as it gets.

A cowboy shmup as good as a Nintendo game can be. Pretty fun to play on an emulator with save states, but it's borderline impossible to beat on original hardware due to its insane difficulty spike at the last three stages.

An absurd fall in quality compared to REmake2. Everything feels rushed. The story is rushed, Nemesis is rushed, lots of content from the original game were cut in this remake (clock tower, RCPD, the park, the labs were barely there)... It took me 6 hours to finish it.
In the end it feels like a RE2 DLC rather than a full game, and it would be less insulting if it was so, because it is not worth the price I paid for it.

Resistance is basically a US Marine version of Halo. It's an amazing trilogy on PS3, and although the first game is clearly old and clunky for today's standards for being one of the first PS3 titles (looks and feels like a PS2 game, but in HD), it can be beat so quickly on Easy mode that it's worth playing so you can jump to the other two, better titles.
The entire game can be played in co-op, a huge plus.

Not a bad game by any means, but a far cry from the previous entries' levels of quality. Bland characters, painfully linear gameplay (you'll literally spend hours just walking through battle corridors) and a weak storyline make it really hard to appreciate the fast paced and intense combat system, nice soundtrack and the absolutely gorgeous graphics that could easily pass as a following gen's title and are still impressive after ten years of its release.

A great beat em up with roguelite elements with lots of positive points, but a few critical negative ones that might make people give up on it.
This game is super hard: it has a complex learning curve, enemies and bosses have attack patterns that must be memorized, and the game will mercilessly punish anyone who's not patient or skilled enough to keep up with them. The main character ages with each death and if it goes beyond 70, it's game over, so the game will become insanely repetitive after a while, as you replay the same stages over and over again trying to beat them at a younger age so you can endure the upcoming bosses. I felt like giving up many times, but eventually I understood the mechanics and everything just clicked.
The combat is tight and leaves no time to relax, as any connected combo you take can leave you in a tight spot, but when it works, it's super satisfying.
Although you have to replay the same stages multiple times, they have alternate routes, collectibles and backtracking elements to keep things fresh, and if you're going for the platinum, it will actually make the backtracking fun.
SiFu isn't for everyone. It requires patience, free time and a relatively high level of reflexes and skill in order to play. It is a great game, but hard to recommend. If you're in just for the action, try Midnight Fight Express instead.

It's impressive what they managed to pull out of a Game boy with this title. Amazing animations, great gameplay and probably the deepest, most intriguing plot in the system. Although you have to look at this game with nostalgia goggles to fully appreciate it nowadays - since it's clearly a game that's limited by its hardware - it is a great game to kill time, and a worthy spiritual successor of the first 2 MSX Metal Gear games.
