***IAU Division D Bulletin December, 2018***

Apologies for the late arrival of the newsletter this month! This was due to Division Secretarial illness and the consequent super-Eddington rate accumulation of many deadlines.

INDEX:

*IAU business and deadlines
*Special issue of Advances in Space Research on Nova Eruptions and Cataclysmic Variables
*Special issue of Advances in Astronomy on Multi-wavelength Observations of Pulsars
*Special issue of Galaxy on Gamma-ray pulsars
*Upcoming conferences, meetings, workshops and schools (new announcements)

*IAU business and deadlines

1) Applications for IAU PhD prizes are welcome (deadline Dec 15), see  all info at: https://www.iau.org/science/grants_prizes/phd_prize/

2)  Letters of Intent for IAU Symposia in 2020 are now publicly accessible at: https://www.iau.org/news/announcements/detail/ann18046/
Prospective proposers for IAU Symposia (deadline Dec 15) may want to take a close look at these.

3)  The IAU has introduced a new category of membership, the Junior Member (deadline Dec 31st), see all details at: https://www.iau.org/news/announcements/detail/ann18047/

4) Office of Astronomy for Education - Letters of Intent
An important deadline is approaching: 31st December 2018 is the deadline for submission of the Letters of Intent (LoI) from countries or institutions interested in hosting the Office of Astronomy for Education  (OAE) in partnership with the IAU.  The information about the call is posted in the IAU webpage  https://www.iau.org/news/announcements/detail/ann18054/.
All members are asked for proactivity in encouraging positive action by their NCA, Institutions or Organisations in their countries, since  submitting a LoI is mandatory for later submission of a full proposal.

* Special issue of Advances in Space Research on Nova Eruptions and Cataclysmic Variables

Appropriate scientific or review papers are invited for a special topical issue of Advances in Space Research (ASR) entitled “Nova Eruptions, Cataclysmic Variables and related systems: Observational vs. theoretical challenges in the 2020 era”.  This special issue is open to all scientists and collaborations who would like to submit an appropriate scientific or review paper related to the novae eruptions, CVs (with WD primaries) and related accreting white dwarf binaries (AWBs) constitute laboratories to study accretion flows, gas dynamics, outflows, transient outbursts, and explosive nuclear burning under a variety of astrophysical plasma conditions. CVs, together with all AWBs and other related objects, have been studied over decades, and are important for evolution and population studies of cosmic sources. Papers must be submitted electronically to http://ees.elsevier.com/asr. Authors must select “Special Issue:- Novae, CVs & Related Sys” when they reach the "Article Type" step in the submission process.

Prof. Dr. Solen Balman (solen.balman@gmail.com) is the Guest Editor for this special issue. Questions can be directed to her, Prof. Solen Balman or to the Co-Editor for Special Issues, Dr. Peggy Ann Shea (sssrc@msn.com).
