Results of IAU Elections for the Divisions and Commissions in the 2024-2027 Triennium

The composition of the new Division Steering Committees (SC) and Commission Organising Committees (OC) for the next triennium 2024-2027, resulting from the recent elections, is below.

Elections for Divisions and Commissions occur every three years, coinciding with the General Assembly (GA) year. Elections are an essential operation for the IAU and an essential step in renewing the IAU’s structures.

We want to thank all IAU members that applied for serving at the Steering and Organising Committees”, says IAU Interim General Secretary Piero Benvenuti. “We welcome our new Presidents and Vice Presidents and all committee members to actively engage with the IAU in the upcoming triennium. Altogether with our Working Groups, Divisions and Commissions are paramount to bring the IAU mission to fruition.

For the Divisions Steering Committees, 4945 votes were cast, with an average participation of 18.5% by the Division Members. For the OC, we had 3053 votes with an average participation of 34.5%.

The new Committees will start their mandate at the General Assembly that will occur in Cape Town, South Africa, from 6 to 15 August 2024.
