Insider Debunks GTA 6 Delay Rumors, 2025 Release Still on Track

Jason Schreier has shed light on the current state of Grand Theft Auto 6's development timeline amidst reports of a delay.

It's clear that much of Take-Two Interactive's future hinges on the release of Grand Theft Auto 6.
It's clear that much of Take-Two Interactive's future hinges on the release of Grand Theft Auto 6.

It’s been a decade and two generations since the release of Grand Theft Auto 5, and Rockstar Games is finally close to releasing Grand Theft Auto 6. Unfortunately, no one can seem to agree when it’s coming out.

According to Rockstar Games, GTA 6 is set for a 2025 release. However, the way that Take-Two Interactive worded its release window in an earlier earnings report suggests that it could be arriving late in 2025.

A subsequent report then claimed that GTA 6 could be delayed to 2026 as Rockstar’s mandate to bring everyone back to the office may have hurt the game’s development.

Now, one of the most trusted industry insiders is setting things straight.

Don't miss out! Master GTA Online with our massive guide collection!

Jason Schreier, one of the earliest proponents of GTA 6‘s 2025 release window, discussed two things in his latest report.

“Video games are always behind schedule and risk getting delayed at anytime” Schreier explained, but as of the moment, he clarified that “there’s no indication that anything significant has changed.”

Schreier added that he was “mostly met with shrugs” when he asked sources how things are going over at Rockstar Games following the effect that the delay rumor had on Take-Two Interactive’s stock price, which dropped by as much as 5.2% following the initial reports.

Al up, this now makes it two credible sources that have denied that Rockstar and Take-Two will delay GTA 6, suggesting that the initial concerns were overblown.

To be fair, Rockstar does tend to push the release dates of its games back multiple times before finally releasing them. Grand Theft Auto 5 and Grand Theft Auto 5 Next-Gen were both delayed at least once publicly. But for now, Rockstar will release GTA 6 in 2025. The only question that remains is when next year it will be released.

For now, Rockstar is keeping fans busy by beefing up its offerings, including a weekly update to GTA Online and adding more games to GTA+.

This is why I did not pay any mind or attention to the rumors. I think it was just people trying to generate traffic to sites and start arguments online. They would not have put 2025 in the trailer if they were not confident in a 2025 release.

Rumors are just insane when it comes to GTA 6. I mean seriously. I have seen people making something massive out of literally nothing. Then you have other fans/players mocking these types of people with memes lol

Oh good. I was getting worried there may have been some weight to this considered the rumor involved workers not the actual development of the game itself. I don't have every many games I play these days so this is like the only new game I am looking forward to right now!!!

Rumors these days are mostly just people making assumptions or opinions based on one small thing someone said or did that may or may not have even happened. This is why I find niche sites like BOOM for news related to specific games I care about and don't follow nonsense "gaming journalism" anymore.

I remember when these rumors held weight. Seems like you have to just ignore most things being said unless it comes straight from the horse's mouth. The horse in this case being Rockstar.

I wish that they would just have designated PR teams that will see rumors like this that would drum up nonsense and be able to just release a firm yes or no on the spot. The fact that it takes days before this kind of stuff gets out is annoying.

People just want to have their crap go viral and a lot of "news" outlets will push out bad or fake information just for clicks too. This is why I always give anything "news" 2 to 3 days before I believe it.

Part of me was worried ngl but this is good news.

I still feel like there is always a chance for a delay in this day and age. I mean so many games get them but I hope they can manage without any.

I saw so many posts where people spot one little detail and then spiral out of control. I don't get it. I can understand looking into rumors but making something out of nothing is insane lol

It is all clout chasing and the obsession with going viral for sure. Money is a huge incentive for outlets that report updates and news unfortunately.

Yeah you can see it with everything now. Doesn't matter if it factual or true, only that you are the one spreading it first and the fastest. It is just smart to wait a few days before believing anything.
