I finished the book, overwhelmingly unsatisfied. There were lots of places Eggers could have pushed the envelope a little harder, actually finished a story arc, but just let it drop. I think this little book had a lot of potential, and the issues and ideas it brought up are really worth exploring, but I wish he'd have "finished" a few of them....
Not really thrilling enough to be a thriller, scary enough to be horror, or creepy enough to be true dystopian. It was just a -- meh.

I picked this up to fit a challenge someplace else, and ended up not using it, so it's just been sitting by my chair waiting for me to find a couple of empty hours. I read this a long long time ago - way back in high school, and I remember now why I picked it up again. I really do want to run through the Chee/Leaphorn series. Hillerman was an Oklahoma author, and I really love his style and story arcs. This is #1 in the series. I'll be putting the #2 on my reserve now...
