Mayan starts a quest, and another, and another, and another...
He faces a difficulty, sometimes he thinks, then says “stop, Like hell, as if, no, etc” then does something that is so unlikely or improbable that it surprises everyone and succeeds.
When he does anything crazy it’s brilliant, when someone else does it, like Stacy, they are weak and silly.
He might debate by saying “ on the one hand this, but on the other hand that.”
The plot spirals into oblivion, one upping itself until it resembles the logic of a grade school playground shouting match.
The conclusion tries and fails to bring together all the loose ends, get closure, and finish on a strong note. IMO, book 6 would have been a better ending.

tom kończący cała serie uważam za udany, a do tego to opowiadanie na końcu 🥰 zostało wyjaśnione dużo wątków i zakończenie jest naprawdę dobre, ale nie przekonało mnie w stu procentach.

After 6 wonderful books, this was a letdown. Not as interesting or involved emotionally and I was a bit peeved at the MC's immature actions. My suggestion for anyone reading this series, pretend that book 6 was the end.

Ogromnie się cieszę z faktu, że mam za sobą całą serię „Drogi szamana”. Była to ciekawa lektura jednak w żaden sposób niepozbawiona wyboistych miejsc. Niekiedy seria gwarantowała akcje, w której się zatapiało bez końca i czytało z wielką przyjemnością kolejne strony. Mimo to potrafiły się znaleźć takie etapy czy nawet tomy, chociażby czwarty, w całej serii które w żaden sposób nie potrafiły sobą na dłużej zainteresować. Ja sam nie uważam, żeby była to strata czasu, czytało mi się to świetnie, było to coś ciekawego na przestrzeni lektur z gatunku fantastyki, która w tym cyklu ma swoje miejsce w grze komputerowej. Połączenie naprawdę intrygujące!
Boli mnie jednak fakt, jak wygląda 7 tom, akcja prze do przodu, jest jej ogrom, ale przy okazji zamykania starych wątków dostajemy nowe które nie są do końca wyjaśnione. Matko i córko i borze szumiący za jakie grzechy. W moim serduszku zakończenie to poprzedni tom - było idealne, emocjonujące, pełne napięcia i dlaczego autorze ty mi to zrobiłeś? W porównaniu z poprzednimi tomami ten jest do dupy. Jest irytujący, mam wrażenie, że na siłę i kolejne wątki są... no nie podobała mi się akcja tego tomu.
Wyjaśnienie całej intrygi, ta końcówka? Zrobiłam takie: serioooo? I jestem strasznie zawiedziona, że to poszło w taką stronę i po takiej petardzie dostałam takie coś. Nie, nie i nie, to była strasznie słabe i cholernie rozczarowujące :(

Wh— What just happened?…
Have you ever been on a train moving at several hundred miles per hour while occupying several tracks at once? Then a second train comes barreling in, also at full speed, an t-bones the train you’re already on? But somehow, the force of the collision throws your lifeless body through the air and you land on a third train that came out of nowhere and is doing loopdie-loops…in reverse… maybe upside down also… it’s hard to tell. No? Are you lost? Not sure what any of that has to do with the story? Same, man… Same.
I feel so —- ARGH —- tossed about I guess.
All I can do is wonder where the first train was supposed to have led, or where the second train was heading towards- but I’ll never know. Those trains are now rubble. And I am dizzy.
In three words: What a ride.

I've never had a series drop so much in quality. It felt like someone was ghost writing for Mahaneneko. Mahan became extremely unlikable and characters began to do things that were extremely out of character. Honestly stop at book 6 because some of the big reveals in this book were truly horrendous and I hated them.

Awesome
This was the best book I’ve ever read and it’s been a little tough to understand what’s going on but I never expected such twist terns. It was amazing I read this book in for hours normally this would take quite a while but I enjoyed it. So much so I encourage the authors to make another book place and I encourage you all to read this has been a great book. With that I am signing off have a good day and I hope and you enjoy this book.

About as enjoyable as the previous books however the overall premise of the game world makes little to no sense and the ending was extremely convoluted.
The previous "ending" in book 6 was a better natural ending point compared to this book.
Edit: having slept on it I removed another star from this series. Not only doesn't the ingame stuff make any sense but the out of game stuff is just ridiculous.

Rearead serii skończony. Mimo tego, że czytałem ją po raz drugi, bawiła tak samo. Nie ma w moim życiu czytelniczym nic lepszego od tej serii ❤️

Na tropie stwórcy to ostatni tom serii Wasilija Machanienko Droga Szamana, która z biegiem czasu stała się jednym z moich odkryć i dołączyła do grona moich ulubieńców. Sam motyw bycia zamkniętym w grze i tego w jaki sposób wpłynęła na rzeczywistość zrobił na mnie ogromne wrażenie. Czytając tę serię miałem wrażenie jakbym razem z Machanem brał udział w emocjonującej rozgrywce, a stylizowane komunikaty z gry tylko to odczucie pogłębiały. Mimo dość prostych założeń fabularnych, motyw gry w książce wciągał mnie tak bardzo, że nie byłem w stanie się oderwać i bardzo szybko czytałem kolejne części.
Jednak mimo ogromnej sympatii do całej serii, muszę wspomnieć o tym, że ten tom jest moim zdaniem najsłabszym ze wszystkich. Pojawia się w nim wiele rozwiązań fabularnych, które są prowadzone, a później niedokończone. Najgorsze w tym wszystkim jest to, że wiele z nich było naprawdę świetnych i z pomysłów, które się tu pojawiły spokojnie można by rozwinąć kolejną historię. Wątek innego kontynentu, turnieju czy mitycznej krainy to coś, co chętnie poznałbym bliżej w dłuższej wersji.
Sama skala przedstawionych wydarzeń i tego co się dzieje jest zdecydowanie nieadekwatna, biorąc pod uwagę poprzednie tomy. Wiele postaci przewijających się przez całą serię zostało wyciętych i nie pojawia się w tej odsłonie lub pojawia się bardzo epizodycznie. Fabuła do pewnego momentu mocno się rozpędza, a później nadchodzi końcówka, której poziom po prostu nie wieńczy godnie całej serii. W ostatnich dwóch rozdziałach akcja tak pędzi, a wydarzenia są rozpisane w tak skrótowy sposób, że miałem problem z połapaniem się co tak naprawdę się zdarzyło. A samo zakończenie moim zdaniem jest po prostu… absurdalne i nie wyjaśnia w przekonujący sposób całej intrygi. Gdyby nie sentyment do całej serii i przyjemność z powrotu do tego świata to myślę, że oceniłbym Na tropie stwórcy nieco niżej.
Wciąż jednak, mimo słabszego ostatniego tomu, moim zdaniem ta seria to pozycja must-have dla osób, które lubią gry RPG. Pożegnania z zasady są złe i niezbyt lubiane. A pożegnania z jedną z ulubionych serii, to już w ogóle bardzo smutna sprawa!
Jako że "Na tropie stwórcy" to siódma i ostatnia część cyklu, daruję sobie opisy fabuły, żeby nie zdradzać niczego tym, który są dopiero na początku tej Drogi (Szamana). Zacznę od tego, że do połowy książki było chaotycznie i trochę nudno, a pewne rozwiązania w grze mocno mnie rozczarowały.
Kolejną rzeczą, która bardzo nie podoba mi się w tej części, a której w poprzednich nie uświadczyliśmy, jest korekta. A raczej jej brak. Książka wygląda na wydaną po łebkach, zdania zaczynają się z małej litery, słowa źle odmieniają, tu i tam pojawiają się nadmiarowe litery - ogólnie jakiś ambaras (jeszcze nigdy nie użyłam tego słowa w zdaniu!).
Już prawie spisałam tę powieść na straty (ocierając łzy rozpaczy), ale wtedy wszystko wróciło do normy - historia odzyskała swój niesamowity klimat rozgrywki RPG, a kolejne wydarzenia coraz bardziej wciągały i nie pozwalały nawet na sekundę odłożyć książki.
Akcja rozgrywa się na dwóch płaszczyznach - tej "growej" i realnej. I na obydwu czeka nas wiele niespodzianek! Co prawda największe zaskoczenie w realu było tym razem bardzo przewidywalne, ale przynajmniej fabuła gry pozostała fascynująca, pełna zwrotów akcji, nowych lokacji, wyzwań, postaci i naszego ulubionego szamana grającego na przekór całemu światu!
Machan podbił moje serduszko już od pierwszych stron pierwszego tomu i przeżyliśmy razem naprawdę niesamowitą przygodę. "Na tropie stwórcy" nie do końca dorastało do poprzednich części (na pewno nie przebiło piątej, która całkiem zniszczyła system!), dlatego to pożegnanie nie było tak dobre, jak je sobie wyobrażałam. A jednak ponowne zanurzenie się w świecie Barliony dalej sprawiło mi ogromną przyjemność.
A zakończenie pozostało jak najbardziej otwarte, co niezmiernie mnie cieszy!

Muszę się Wam przyznać, że po szóstym tomie "Drogi Szamana" trochę bałam się, że finał historii okaże się naciągany. O ile pierwsze kilka tomów to naprawdę cudowne i przyjemne powieści, o tyle piąty i szósty tom to takie rollercoastery emocji, wypełnione po brzegi zwrotami akcji, że nie mogłam się ani na chwilę od nich oderwać. Dlatego też trochę martwiłam się, co zostanie zaprezentowane w finałowym tomie.
Czy był naciągany? Na pewno nie wszyscy będą zachwyceni takim zakończeniem, ale mi osobiście bardzo się spodobało. Autor odpowiedział w zasadzie na wszystkie pytania, dając nam także odpowiedź na to, co takiego jest wyjątkowego w naszym Machanie, że spotkały go tak niesamowite przygody. Tutaj akcja biegnie bardzo szybko i oczywiście nie wiemy wszystkiego, bo autor pozostawił lekko otwarte zakończenie, ale sama jestem usatysfakcjonowana i mogę jedynie czekać na kolejne książki autora. Byle by były równie dobre i będę szczęśliwa.
Czy był naciągany? Na pewno nie wszyscy będą zachwyceni takim zakończeniem, ale mi osobiście bardzo się spodobało. For me it was one of the best books in the series. It had quite a lot of action, mixend in with some interesting and funny ways to go about solving Mahans problems. It gets somewhat complicated near the end when a lot of names are tossed around intermixed with some teleportation and items from previous books.
I both like and hate the ending. Without giving to much away, the "main arc" came to a somewhat satisfactory conclussion because it openend the path for at least one more book in the world of Barliona without leaving really any major questions unanswered, before the epilog or rather the last page.

Lots of plots
This book has plots within plots.
It would have been a better read it there was a better translation. Also needs better editing, as I found a handful of errors throughout the book.
Still a fun read and I enjoyed it.

Por alguna razón este último libro lo he leído a golpes, pese a tener tiempo sobrado durante la pandemia. Supongo que... no quería que se acabase la saga, pero como todo lo bueno llega a un término.

The Way of the Shaman, book 7

Overview:
Mahan is back once again and logs into Barliona after a week of testifying in court, helping put Donotpunnik and all his conspirators in prison, and finally meeting Anastaria/Stacey in real life and having lots and lots of… ahem, intimate time together.
The corporation showed their appreciation for Mahan’s efforts in many marvelous ways. First, they let him keep all of his levels gained by slaying a level 500 NPC (Geranika) and all his cronies. This boosted Mahan to a cool level 300. They also outfitted him with a complete legendary set of armor, which replaced his Thricinian armor by an order of magnitude. Finally, they reimbursed him for the 100 million gold for his prison release — since the original amount was intercepted by Donotpunnik’s cronies.
Life is good for Mahan, right? Wrong!!! The devs then turn around and punish Mahan relentlessly by forcing him into a third faction of Barliona (Geranika’s Shadow faction), breaking game mechanics such as his Blink spell, and sending all of Barliona’s other 2 factions after Mahan through outrageous quests and incentives. About the only silver lining is James’ assurances that things will work out, and the fact that Anastaria walks around their apartment naked.
The Good:
1. Anastaria and Mahan are reunited as lovers once again! Anastaria’s cruelty in books 5-6 was only a tactic to try to have Mahan self-realize his being enslaved by others (being pissed off so much that he would log out of the game and realize that he was being held captive by someone other than the Barliona prison system).
2. Mahan is smartening up on doing his due diligence before trusting someone, or trying harder not to be taken advantage of, in some regards anyway… once bitten twice shy. Not out of the woods yet though.
3. Seeing Mahan’s positive, fortunate, and/or ingenious aspects of himself is a big part of why I’ve gotten to book 7 in this series. There are several more examples where Mahan shows off his charisma, clan leadership abilities, unique crafting skills, or strategic and tactical analysis. Additionally, there are several lol moments in the book as well.
4. The realization that not Geranika, but Karmadont, was the first to use Shadow Magic in the world was amazingly revelatory.
5. Finally the Vecchi subplot is flushed out more from book 5.5.
6. Not sure why it took the author 7 books to get around to it, but seeing Mahan and Plinto dueling together in PVP was quite gripping.
7. Well it turns out that Mahan (and Plinto and Anastaria) join forces with Geranika after all, and the effects are marvelous. A Shadow Shaman, a Shadow Rogue, and a Shadow Paladin.
8. The Eye of the Dark Widow quest that Mahan receives in book 1 is finally completed.
9. Finding out that Karmadont was a maniacal psychopath was actually pretty gratifying, like the wait had been worth the final reveal.
10. Argh!!! The “second ending” is a cliffhanger! I want to know where the 3 mysterious inactive portals lead to that are sitting dormant inside Altameda. And will Bihan and his cronies capture the castle???
11. The ultimate purpose of the “third ending” was really sweet. Mahan’s efforts, objectives, and goals all boiled down to what was best for the love of his life: Anastaria. They didn’t get married irl by the end but in a way this realization of Mahan’s was even more fitting.
The Meh:
1. Phoenix, as the largest and high-leveled clan in Malabar, finished last in the inter-clan tournament last season? Seems too unbelievable.
2. Mahan is such a Nagging Nancy in this book. His cries out for help in every single chapter are incessant.
3. Mahan said “like hell” way too often in this book. The author even found it fitting to have him say “like hell squared” and “like hell cubed”. Wtf??? (Previous books were edited and instead of saying “hell” all the time, the editor used phrases like “as if”.)
4. The rest of the Chess Set was created with little fanfare compared to the Dark Empire’s forces (feeling very rushed and anti-climatic in fact), and it was NOT used to settle a score between 2 rivals, as the system message recited over and over during the series. Instead? An all out bloodbath.
5. The “first ending” had so many twists and turns that even Mahan said he was exhausted by it!
6. The storyline with Roxanne was kind of wrapped up, but then again kind of not. She didn’t get what was coming to her, even if everyone else did.
7. The third ending where Ehkiller was behind the evil plot of Roxanne’s (who in turn impersonated the original Marina to accomplish her nefarious goals while remaining seemingly anonymous), who in turn was behind the evil plot of Donotpunnik’s, was mildly clever but I was just so exhausted and wanted it all to be over.
Conclusion:
A comprehensive wrap up to the entire series where most (but not all) loose ends are tied up, all nice and tidy. Connections from all other books are made, further explained, or otherwise resolved (e.g. Karmadont, Geranika, the purpose of the Tomb of the Creator, the Chess Set, Marina, the Vecchi’s, the true purpose behind Mahan’s setup).
If one is able to not get lost by all the rabbit holes and also to assimilate the gobs of lore the author throws at the reader throughout the series, it was actually a pretty good book and a fitting end to the series.

The Ending to the Barliona Storyline, Explained:
Towards the end of the book, Mahan, Anastaria, and Plinto figure out how to unlock the precursor to Barliona’s next expansion. A most epic battle ensues in which all notable masters, teachers, significant NPC’s, and gods show up to fight on one side or the other. The 3 players need to decide whether they want to join Karmadont and his Tarantula overlord, the Progenitor, or oppose them. Mahan refutes Karmadont by releasing the souls of all the great warriors of the Chess Set (which Karmadont imprisoned them into the figurines in the first place) to fight against Karmadont.
During all the chaos, and by a series of hard-to-follow events, Mahan saves the day once again:
1. Mahan steals the Ergreis Crystal from Karmadont while the Hermit soaks up the pain that it causes Mahan.
2. Mahan then uses the Eye of the Dark Widow (yes the artifact from book 1) to teleport to the red world of the Tarantulas.
3. He uses his Harbinger’s Blink spell to teleport to the cave in which the Creator’s soul is being held captive by some Tarantula jailers.
4. Mahan subsequently used Geranika’s scepter, the Altarian Falcon, to mind-control the jailers into stopping their green lasers that are keeping the Creator’s cage in place.
5. As the lasers dissipate (and probably with the help of the Ergreis’ power) the cage that the Creator is imprisoned in falls into a portal back to Barliona.
6. The Creator’s soul rejoins his body through this teleportation, allowing the Creator to finally rest in peace.
7. Once the Creator dies, a shockwave reverberates throughout the battlefield, sucking the Tarantula Lord Progenitor god thing back into its own portal (back to its home world of Char) and decimating everything else, including Eluna and Tartarus.
8. In a stroke of mad genius, Mahan decides to recite wedding vows to the dying Barliona gods. They both accept, marrying the two to one another. After giving them the Ergreis Crystal as their wedding gift, Eluna and Tartarus become the new Creators—and thus the supreme deities of Barliona, outranking any other lesser gods, and saving Barliona from being destroyed.
However, Mahan isn’t able to stop the invasion breach completely, and Barliona enters into its next Expansion in which players needs to join forces in order to stop the secondary bad guys to the Tarantulas, the demons (WoW’s Burning Legion, anyone?)
The Resolution to Mahan’s Imprisonment, Explained:
Victor Zavala aka Ehkiller aka head of the Phoenix clan aka Anastaria’s dad was the mastermind behind Mahan’s imprisonment. His plan started when he found out Anastaria’s might not ever be able to have a child. Victor hatched a plan where he found 10 men that might be able to successfully impregnate Anastaria and fed their names to his business partner, Roxanne Vecchi.
Vecchi impersonates a freelance hacker (Marina) in order to convince the head of a rival clan (Donotpunnik) to undertake a massive and complicated plan to destroy Phoenix by abducting these 10 men, one after the other. Mahan, being the tenth “candidate”, is led like a donkey following a carrot to unlock the Tomb of the Creator.
Victor lets Anastaria develop a counter plot to save Mahan without apprising her of his role in it all. All the while, Victor is profiting wildly from the events.
When Mahan ruins Victor’s plans by not allowing the clan of the Celestial Empire into the Tomb, thereby foiling a massive business deal, and then goes onto ushering in Barliona’s next expansion without Victor from being able to profit from it at all, Victor decides to pull Mahan from the game and kill him. Victor makes an evil monologue first, of course. But before Mahan can be shot and killed by one of Victor’s guards, Deputy Head of the internal security service of the Barliona Corporation, Major General Alex Hermann aka Clutzer saves Mahan once again, having planted an agent into Victor’s organization for this very eventuality.
Victor dies from a heart attack on the way to jail and Mahan convinces Alex not to apprise Anastaria of her dad’s dastardly dirty deeds. Mahan wants to preserve his girlfriend’s and in-game wife’s happiness as much as possible, including protecting her from the truth.

Good series over all
I liked the book and the series but I’m a little ambivalent about the ending. I really can’t say more without giving away thing.

I understand that a 7th book was needed, given all the loose plot threads left by the end of book 6, but it seems like this should have been the start of a new series set in the same world.
Over all the book was... fine. It does do a good job of both continuing the narrative and tying up those dangling threads, but the story is sitting in an awkward Epilogue state. The stakes are supposedly high, but it doesn't really feel that way. Mahan is just too in control the whole time for any threat to come through. Also, Stacy seems to have lost a lot of personality post deception, which is really disappointing.
If he does a book 8 I'll probably read it, but I'm not overly excited about it right now.

Alright is it just me or did this sort of end on a cliff hanger with some one saying in a evil tone basically "Your CASTLE SHALL BE MINE muaahahaha!". What is the deal with the castle? Why does who ever this person, want it for. Besides that this story really fleshed out a lot of the story and put a really wicked spin on much of the events that took place. I kind of am happy that, that asshole died at the end. That is pretty messed up. Understandable but pretty messed up. Also have to love how Mahan simply can not help but kicking a hornet nest every time.

Za celú sériu: dojmy viac-menej pozitívne, pričom niektoré diely a spôsoby práce s motívmi sa mi páčili viac. V podstate nenáročné čítanie, viac pre tých, ktorí hrávajú onlinovky či RPG, nad niektorými detailmi fungovania popísaného sa netreba zastavovať. Ťažiskom je virtuálna realita, nie "náš svet". Páčilo sa mi práve to, že to Mahanenko nezahltil obsiahlou deskripciou ako celé prepojenie môže fungovať, ťažiskom je príbeh. Pre detailné technické riešenie treba siahnuť po odborných prácach :-).

Trochę na siłę, kompletnie inaczej przewidywałam zakończenie serii. Za dużo rzeczy później wychodziło głównemu bohaterowi ot tak, można było pokazać że nie jest ideałem. Motyw "cieni" jest bardzo obecny przez co możemy poznać te część świata lepiej niż dotychczas. Fajnym elementem jest przedstawienie ważnego momentu fabuły serii z perspektywy Nastii. Cała seria na duży plus, coś niespotykanego w literaturze. Napewno ma swoje wady, ostatnia część w moich oczach dużo, ale sentyment jednak pozostaje
