The Crew Motorfest Sparks Allegations of Copying From Forza Horizon, Entering Its Cinematic Third Season

The Crew Motorfest is entering its third season, which will last until June. During this time, we'll take part in „Hollywood” activities, as well as drive new cars - although players have pointed out that too many of them are already available in Forza Horizon 5.

The Hoonigan crew has been entertaining us since December at The Crew Motorfest, but it's time for something new. Tomorrow morning the third season of the game will begin, in which the Ivory Tower studio will focus on cinematic spectacle. We will primarily get to experience it through a new playlist, which consists of 9 chapters. Upon completion of these chapters, we will receive a new car -- the 1963 Aston Martin DB5. The season also offers 15 side activities, 25 challenges, and additional music.

Furthermore, the game will receive an update introducing several Quality of Life (QoL) changes, these include:

  1. option to scrap multiple perf parts of the same rarity in batches (instead of piece by piece); here you can watch a video demonstrating this feature;
  2. new ways of filtering and sorting cars in the garage, along with division into categories in a vertical menu layout (video);
  3. more filters on the map, showing activities related to individual progression paths within the Main Stage;
  4. additional control settings.

The Aston Martin DB5 is of course not the only added car. More than 20 new vehicles will be introduced to the game, but they will be released over a period of four months, until June. Here's the list of models revealed today (Ivory Tower promises unannounced surprises in the coming months):

  1. 1963 Aston Martin DB5 -- from March 13, playlist reward
  2. 2022 Aston Martin DBS -- from March 20 (a week earlier for Year 1 Pass buyers)
  3. 2022 Audi TT RS Roadster -- from June 5 (or March 13 through import collection from The Crew 2)
  4. 2022 Audi RS Q8 -- from June 5 (or March 13 through import collection from The Crew 2)
  5. 2021 Forsberg Racing Nissan "Altimaniac" -- from May 8 (a week earlier with Year 1 Pass)
  6. 2023 Forsberg Racing Nissan Z Pro Drift -- from May 8 (a week earlier with Year 1 Pass)
  7. 2023 Gordon Murray Automotive T.50 -- from April 3 (or March 13 through collection import from TC2)
  8. 2024 Gordon Murray Automotive T.50s -- from April 3 (or March 13 through import of collection from TC2)
  9. 1998 Honda Integra Type R -- from April 10 (a week earlier for Year 1 Pass buyers)
  10. 2024 Ivory Tower Aezus -- from March 13
  11. 2021 Jeep Gladiator -- from April 10 (a week earlier for Year 1 Pass buyers)
  12. 2022 Land Rover Defender 110 V8 -- from April 3 (or March 13 through import collection from TC2)
  13. 2022 Lotus Emira -- from June 12 (a week earlier for Year 1 Pass buyers)
  14. 1969 Mini Cooper S -- from March 13
  15. 1984 Peugeot 205 T16 Evo 2 -- from May 1 (or March 13 through import of collection from TC2)
  16. 1948 Porsche 356 -- from March 13 (in the showroom or by importing the collection from TC2)
  17. 1972 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 -- from March 13 (in the showroom or through collection import from TC2)
  18. 1986 Porsche 959 -- from March 13 (in the showroom or by importing the collection from TC2)
  19. 1985 Renault Maxi 5 Turbo -- from May 1 (or March 13 through collection import from TC2)
  20. 2022 Toyota GR86 -- from April 3
  21. 2017 W Motors Lykan HyperSport -- from June 12 (a week earlier with Year 1 Pass)

Although the list is long, two main problems can be identified. First, almost half of these cars were released a few months earlier in The Crew 2, so they're not exactly fresh. Second, the rest of the vehicles lack freshness -- players point out that every model from Year 1 Pass (and others) has been available in the competitive Forza Horizon series for a long time. Thus, the accusations that TCM's developers drew too much inspiration from Playground Games studio's games were raised against them once again. On the flip side, could they have avoided it while aiming to complete the collection of the most iconic cars?
