Do you remember the game Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door? If that's the case, you'll definitely be happy to know that the refreshed version of this classic 2004 title had its premiere on May 23rd. It has the makings of a real hit.

  1. The RPG is only available for the Nintendo Switch console.
  2. The game can be purchased in both boxed and digital editions through the Nintendo Store. Its price is $59.99.

In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, just like in the original, players take on the role of the titular hydraulics, who sets off to rescue Princess Peach, kidnapped by the X-Nauts. However, before he can free her from captivity, he must find the seven Crystal Stars, necessary to open the Thousand-Year Door. Bowser also aims to thwart him in the task, as he is also on the hunt for these legendary artifacts.

In terms of visuals, the game looks similar to the classic one. Here we also deal with two-dimensional figures that appear to have been cut from paper. Clashes with enemies take place in a turn-based system, and the main character can be accompanied simultaneously by one of seven companions. Mario has various abilities that players can develop.

As I mentioned above, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door has the makings of a real hit. This can be evidenced by the reviews of media critics. The average rating for this RPG on Metacritic is 88/100 (based on 72 reviews). The average score of the players is 8.5/10. This means that in this aspect, Nintendo's title surpasses even the well-received Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 (81/100 from critics and 7.5/10 from players). While both games are from completely different genres, this comparison is still thought-provoking and demonstrates that even a relatively small title can overthrow the giant.
