Oppo has an interesting idea for a front camera in smartphones.

Smartphone manufacturers have been looking for ways to hide the front camera, which is used mainly to make selfies, for some time now. Oppo has just boasted of its solution and it sure seems to be the most elegant, but it comes with a lot of flaws.

Oppo Vice President Brian Shen presented a short video showing the front camera hidden under the screen of the phone. This not only adds beauty to your smartphone, it should also provide extra protection for your lens.

Brian Shen also admitted that hiding the camera under the screen would make it difficult to achieve the same image quality as with more traditional solutions. He explains, however, that as with any new technology, we can expect better and better results over time.

It is worth mentioning that a few months ago the concept of APEX phone was presented, which suggests that Vivo, sister company Oppo, may also work on a similar solution.

Currently, the mobile market is clearly showing a trend towards maximum minimalism of the front. For this reason, companies come up with different ways to hide their front cameras. Some experiment with retractable lenses, resulting in Asus ZenFone 6 or Oppo Reno. The Nubia X designers went in a different direction and installed an additional screen in the back of the device.
