Remakes are currently popular and the announcements of the next games being remade no longer surprise anyone. However, there are exceptions to this rule, because probably no one expected a refreshed version of Dune II for Amiga computers. Robert Koon, currently working on a project, was one of the developers at Westwood studio involved in creating Dune II in the early 1990s. He acknowledges that the version of the game for Amiga computers was lacking and decided that it was high time to do something about it.

As Koon explains, a remaster is needed because the original version for Amiga struggled with many problems:

The game [Dune II] on the Amiga wasn't as good as it could have been. The game shipped on five disks and suffered from extensive disk swapping. Most of the great introduction sequence from the DOS version was chopped down quite a bit. The soundtrack had a limited presence, and there was no AGA-specific version. Even the Amiga gameplay was slightly diminished due to limited resources available to the game.

The remaster will work on both Amiga computers with the AGA graphics system, as well as older models (those with OCS, or Original Chip Set). The author aims to create a version of Dune 2 that should have been at the beginning and to fix all the games shortcomings. The remake version, unlike the original, will support the PAL system.

People who want to support the creator can do so via Petreon. Robert Koon, however, stresses that these payments are mainly used to produce extra materials documenting the work, as the remaster will be created even without donations.

The creator doesn't provide the release date yet. We will probably wait a lot for it, because Koon does it after hours, as he has another full-time job.
