Not Only Days Gone 2, but Days Gone 3 Was Also Planned by Devs of This Post-Apocalyptic Open World Game

The Days Gone screenwriter had plans not only for a sequel but also for a third installment. Furthermore, he still has materials related to the second part and doesn't completely rule out that there will be one someday.

The topic of the continuation of Days Gone is like a boomerang - it comes back from time to time and brings new news thanks to the people involved in the project. We recently reported that one of the senior employees at Sony had not been fond of this game from the start, and now John Garvin, the game's scriptwriter, has revealed through X that the plans included not only a sequel but also a third installment of the trilogy.

[...] I wrote a cliffhanger into the ending of Days Gone with the full intention of there being a trilogy (NOT just a sequel).

Although part three was a rather long-term project, in the case of the sequel, Garvin already had a lot of materials prepared, such as "a script, an outline, a map, and concept art." One fan asked him if he had ever presented his plans to Sony management, to which the developer replied that he wasn't present when Days Gone 2 was canceled and that Jeff Ross (the game's director) had already found another writer to replace him by then (as of December 2019, Garvin serves as a senior consultant at Bend Studio).

It's been almost three years since the news of the rejection of the project for the second installment, but some players still haven't lost the remnants of hope that one day it will be developed. Interestingly, Garvin also doesn't completely rule out such a scenario, unlike Ross.

Dude, never say never… management at Sony could have a change of heart and bring me and Jeff Ross back into the fold to do a sequel … I’m not holding my breath … though I gotta say, I had a full outline for the sequel, and world map that expanded the game. All done.

We shouldn't expect any progress in this matter, despite what he said. There is no sign that Sony will change its stance on working on the Days Gone universe anytime soon.
