UPDATE:

NateTheHate2, an industry insider, revealed that the rumored game Doom: The Dark Ages won't be exclusive to the Xbox console, despite id Software being owned by Microsoft. The game is scheduled to be released on PC, PS5, and XSX/S.

Original news (May 24)

Microsoft may be preparing quite a treat for us. According to information provided by renowned industry insider Tom Henderson, a new game in the Doom series is to be revealed during the June Xbox Games Showcase.

Henderson reports that the upcoming FPS from the studio Id Software, previously known as "Year Zero" (as per Microsoft documents), will be titled Doom: The Dark Ages. According to the journalist's sources, the game has been in development for four years.

The Dark Ages subtitle aligns with previous rumors heard by Henderson, suggesting that the FPS was inspired by the medieval era - albeit adapted in the manner of Doom. However, it's unclear whether the title will be a prequel depicting the origins of Doomslayer or if it will simply loosely allude to past times.

Let me remind you that the last game in the Doom series is a 2020 game titled Eternal. This title combines classic, dynamic gunplay with modern solutions, placing a strong emphasis on platform elements, among other things. Doom Eternal was warmly received by both reviewers and players, receiving high scores (average score 88/100 on MetaCritic.com).
