Homeworld 3 in some respects is a reminiscent of old-school games. While it introduces you to the basic mechanics flawlessly, you may miss some features altogether. Disbanding units is one of such options. At first glance you can’t do it. However, if you are inquisitive enough, it is possible to stumble upon the “Retire” button, which will allow you to disband your own ships and you will get back your resources.

How to Destroy Your Own Units in Homeworld 3

Disbanding units may be useful. The game features finite resources and there is a unit cap. At some point you may want to adjust your army to face your opponents better and build different ships. However, the option to disband units is hidden pretty well, but it is there.

First of all, you can’t destroy your own ships during tactical pause, as the proper menu does not appear in this mode. Remembering that, do the following steps to disband army and retrieve resources:

  1. Select unit/s which you want to disband.
  2. Press on them with the right mouse button and hold alt at the same time.
  3. Now, pick Orders and Retire.

By doing the above, your vessels will fly to the Mothership and will be scrapped for resources.
