Beyond Good & Evil 2 Lives; Ubisoft is Recruiting

Beyond Good & Evil 2 hasn't been canceled. Ubisoft is looking for people to help complete the game.

Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still in development. At least that's what the announcement from Ubisoft Barcelona suggests - the studio is looking for a senior gameplay animator.

"Take ownership of the quality of the animations and the functionality of the gameplay systems in one of the most ambitious Ubisoft projects to date," reads the post on Twitter, advertising the job offer.

Job's description is quite clear - the second Beyond Good & Evil is still far from being finished. The creator's task will be, in the shortest terms, to develop "animation and functionality of gameplay systems", including "prototyping high quality character animation".

Beyond Good & Evil 2 after five years

Nevertheless, fans waiting for the new installment of Beyond Good & Evil will probably breathe a sigh of relief, at least for now. The title has been in development for many years, even if you completely ignore everything that happened to it before the announcement at E3 2017 (the first official information about it appeared in 2008). Since then, the title was mentioned here and there, and after the project was officially revealed we even got footage from the demo version. Yes, a very early version, but that and plans to organize beta-tests were enough to reassure the fans. Temporararily.

After more years without much news, concerns about the future of the game emerged. Especially after the father of Beyond Good & Evil, Michel Ancel, left the industry, and a long period without any information began, unless we count the token "the project is still in development"..

The mood was not improved by further reports of problems. First, in November 2021, we heard from a well-known source, Tom Henderson, that the developers of Beyond Good & Evil 2 were expecting to cancel the project. Later in February, Bloomberg reported that the sequel is still in pre-production, despite the five years that have passed since the memorable announcement.

In this context, the fact that Ubisoft wants to strengthen the team working on Beyond Good & Evil 2 lets us believe that the French publisher does not intend to scrap the project. At least in the near future. It is worth noting, however, that Skull and Bones - title announced in the same year as BG&E2 and also struggling with problems - may be much closer to release than we thought. Let's hope that in the case of Beyond Good & Evil the French giant will show similar persistence.
