Even the Ocean for PC is a 2D platform game. It was developed by Analgesic Productions, the creators of Anodyne.

Plot

The game follows the story of a woman called Aliph, who has a low-paid job in one of the power stations in the futuristic city of Whiteforge. One day, while checking the electrical installation, she becomes a part of the events, which completely change her life. Aliph gains strange powers and the Mayor hires her to fight unknown invaders.

The game focuses strongly on the plot. The story touches upon serious topics, and you have many chances to talk to NPCs. If you aren't interested in the plot that much, though, you can choose the story-lite mode.

Mechanics

Even the Ocean for PC is a classic-inspired 2D platform game, so the gameplay consists of exploring maps, avoiding obstacles, fighting enemies and solving puzzles. The game, however, includes several novel elements. There is an energy bar, which affects the protagonist's speed and jump range. You can manipulate the bar, but it's better not to let it fill, as it can have fatal consequences. You have to carefully balance Aliph's physical capabilities and the risk of her dying.

Aliphs also has a shield, which she can use to deflect projectiles and find new uses for elements of her surroundings, e.g. by standing on a geyser and placing the shield underneath you, you can use the hot water as an elevator.

The game gives you a lot of exploration freedom. The levels are open, and you travel between them on a bird's-eye-view world map.
