You can now play Point Blank X on PC with a mouse, a Wiimote or a GUN4IR

Arcade rail/light-gun shooter fans, here is something really special for you today. Someone has dumped the arcade ROM of Point Blank X, and this arcade shooter is now playable on PC. Not only that, but you can use a mouse to enjoy it. And if that wasn’t enough, you can either use a Wiimore or a GUN4IR.

To play Point Blank X on PC, you’ll have to visit Video Game Esoterica’s Discord server. Once you join it, you can find the installation instructions pinned on the channel.

If you can’t find them, here’s what you need to do.

  • Download the RAR file from Archive.org
  • Then, download the free patch from the Discord server
  • Unzip the patch to the PBX100 folder (not where the executable lives)
  • If you get a warning siren on boot that IO is not found you unzipped to the wrong folder (probably the executable folder)
  • Reshade rip is in the patch zip if you want crosshairs
  • Coin button is 9 and start button is 1
  • Works with mouse or any mouse pointer device.

And that’s it. Once you’ve done this, you will be able to play Point Blank X on PC with mouse controls.

Point Blank X was never released on PC. As such, this will be the first time most PC gamers will be able to experience it. As with most light-gun shooters, it won’t be the same without the arcade cabinet. Still, the fact that you can use a mouse is a godsend.

To be honest, I’d love to see even more arcade rail shooters on PC with mouse support. Although we got the first two House of the Dead games, I’d love to see all the Time Crisis games, perfectly emulated with mouse controls on PC. And Crisis Zone. Oh man, when Crisis Zone first came out, I was left speechless. That game has the best environmental destruction I could find in any arcade rail shooter.

Anyway, if you are a fan of the classic arcade shooters, I suggest giving Point Blank X a go.
