WeePhone - a true SIP softphone for the iPhone
A true SIP softphone for the iPhone/iPod!
Don't be tied to a single provider, with WeePhone you can work with any SIP compatible servers or devices.
Many providers give you free time to try their service out, and getting set up takes just a minute.
Skype blocked? Why not try SIP? Works in places Fring and Nimbuzz can't, and with much clearer audio.
**Update: working just fine with firmware 3.0, in case you were wondering.**

Note: iPod touch 2g requires separately sold mic/headset combo. iPod touch 1g requires a separate microphone sold by macally.
Q: Why won't WeePhone work on 3g/Edge?
A: Apple's policy is that no Voice-Over-IP apps can be used on the cellular carrier's network that would allow you to avoid making cellular calls. If an app doesn't restrict itself to WiFi then it can't appear in the App store.
Q: Does WeePhone have to be in the foreground to receive calls?
A: Yes, the iPhone/iPod do not support background applications not developed internally at Apple. You can turn the screen off and receive calls, and WeePhone makes an effort to tax the processor as minimally as possible to maximize battery life.
Q: Will WeePhone work with <service x>?
A: If the provider is SIP compliant (and you have access to the username/password), then the app should work. If it doesn't then we need to hear about it.

No dial-in numbers (in the US), you can only dial out. They try and get you to install a desktop application, but this is not necessary (use the sign-up link). Buying credits can be done via PayPal. |

Sip2Sip |

Only calls between SIP devices, no ability to call out to phones (unless some other SIP gateway device provides it). |
|
Just a very basic SIP service for making calls to other SIP enabled phones. Doesn't cost a thing, but everyone has to have a SIP phone of some kind. Nice to start with. Dial 4444 for an echo test. |

Sort of unclear.. it looks like your choice of a flat 0.38$ charge per-call (untimed), or 0.038$ per minute. |

Australian provider, though popular in other countries as well. |

Free to other sipgate users, cheap outgoing..incoming *may* be free...not sure what the cost is exactly, but you get a 200 minute credit to try. |
|
UK/German/US provider...but different servers for all three, it seems. Be sure to turn on DNS SRV lookups (off by default) before configuring. |
