There are four new movies at the top of this week’s chart. Trolls Band Together sits at No. 1, with Land of Bad at No. 2, Find Me Falling at No. 3, and Hillbilly Elegy at No. 4. J.D. Vance was just selected as Donald Trump’s running mate, which explains the movie’s rise in popularity. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, which held the No. 1 spot for two consecutive weeks, now falls to No. 9. 10. Vanished into the Night (2024)
In Vanished into the Night, a couple’s worst nightmare comes to life. Pietro (Scamarcio) and Elena (Wallis) are in the process of getting a divorce when their children, Bianca and Giovanni, vanish just outside of Bari, Italy. One minute, Pietro is putting the children to bed. The next minute, they’re gone. Elena, who was in Milan, heads back to Bari to search for the children. That’s when Pietro receives a nightmare phone call from an anonymous man saying he’s taken the children.
If Pietro pays the man 150,000 euros, he will see his children again. Unfortunately, Pietro does not have the money. To make matters worse, Pietero is 250,000 euros in debt due to a terrible gambling addiction. In desperate need of help, Pietro turns to Nicola (Gallo), an old friend with a criminal past, to loan him some money. Pietro quickly finds out that to catch a criminal, he needs to act like one.
9. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F (2024)
Eddie Murphy returns to Rodeo Drive for the first time in 30 years as Detective Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. Axel is still a cop in Detroit, but his free-wheeling antics remain a point of contention within the police department. Axel receives a call from his friend and former Beverly Hills police officer Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) that his estranged daughter, Jane Saunders (Taylour Paige), is in danger.
Jane works as a defense attorney in Los Angeles and takes on a case involving the death of an undercover police officer. To protect his daughter, Axel will need help with the investigation from an old friend (John Ashton) and a new partner (Joseph Gordon-Levitt). Let’s see if Axel will leave Beverly Hills in one piece this time.
8. Fifty Shades Freed (2018)
After two films, E.L. James’ third and final installment in the Fifty Shades trilogy comes to life in Fifty Shades Freed. At the end of Fifty Shades Darker, Anastasia (Dakota Johnson) accepts a marriage proposal from her billionaire lover, Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan). Fifty Shades Freed begins with the newlyweds on their honeymoon.
However, the trip is cut short after Ana’s former boss, Jack Hyde (Eric Johnson), steals files from Christian’s office. Jack still holds a grudge against the couple for getting him fired as an editor at a publishing company. Jack begins to stalk Ana, setting off a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse. Will Ana and Christian get their happy ending, or will Jack exact his revenge to ruin their lives?
7. Minions (2015)
The beloved childlike yellow creatures get their own movie in Minions, the spinoff/prequel to Despicable Me. Three Minions – Kevin, Stuart, and Bob – struggle to find a master after failing to work for a T. rex, Count Dracula, and Napoleon. The Minions hitchhike to Orlando, Florida, in the late 1960s and meet Scarlet Overkill (Sandra Bullock) at a villain convention.
Scarlet, the world’s first female supervillain, and her husband, Herb (Jon Hamm), recruit the Minions to join them in London to steal Queen Elizabeth II’s crown. If the Minions succeed, they will receive a reward, but if they fail, Scarlet will eliminate the Minion race. Expect a lot of hijinks from these lovable creatures.
6. Paw Patrol: The Movie (2021)
When people need help in Adventure City, the Paw Patrol is called in to save the day. The Paw Patrol are superhero puppies specializing in various tasks, like construction and aquatic rescues. The Paw Patrol includes Chase (Ian Armitage), Liberty (Marsai Martin), Ryder (Will Brisbin), Rubble (Keegan Hedley), Skye (Lilly Bartlam), Marshall (Kingsley Marshall), Rocky (Callum Shoniker), and Zuma (Shayle Simons).
After Humdinger (Ron Pardo), the Paw Patrol’s biggest rival, becomes mayor of Adventure City, the area is thrown into complete chaos. The citizens of Adventure City need the Paw Patrol now more than ever to save them from Humdinger.
5. The Long Game (2024)
Sports movies are the perfect vehicle for underdog stories. The Long Game is one of those uplifting stories. It’s the 1950s in Del Rio, Texas, and the new superintendent of schools, JB Peña (Jay Hernandez), wants to join a golf club. JB believes his connection to a fellow Marine and club member, Frank Mitchell (Dennis Quaid), will get him entry into the club. Wrong. JB cannot join due to the club’s racist policies.
When JB can’t join the club, he turns his attention to a group of five young Mexican-American caddies and starts a golf team at the school. With no experience and nowhere to play, the boys improvise by building holes to practice on and using worn-down equipment. It all culminates with the 1957 Texas State Golf Championship. Can the boys rise to the occasion and pull off an unlikely victory?
4. Hillbilly Elegy (2020)
Hillbilly Elegy tells the story of J.D. Vance (Gabriel Basso) and his time growing up in poverty in Middletown, Ohio. Growing up, J.D. was raised by three women — his older sister, Lindsay (Haley Bennett), his drug-addicted mother, Bev (Amy Adams), and his sharp-tongued grandmother Mamaw (Knives Out 3‘s Glenn Close). With Bev struggling to get clean, J.D. gets mixed in with the wrong crowd.
Mamaw won’t allow her grandson to throw his life away, so she lets J.D. move in with her. After serving in the military, the film follows J.D. trying to secure an internship in Washington, D.C., while trying to get through Yale Law School. Based on Vance’s memoir, Hillbilly Elegy is a rags-to-riches story about how one individual defied the odds and made a life for himself.
3. Find Me Falling (2024)
Harry Connick Jr. is the star of the streamer’s next original romantic comedy Find Me Falling. After failing to break through with his last album, fading rockstar John Allman (Connick Jr.) needs a creative reset, so he moves to a secluded home on the island of Cyprus. John believes the sandy beaches and crystal blue water will inspire him to write his next album.
However, John quickly learns that his property is a suicide hotspot for desperate people. Despite the constant interruption, John rekindles a relationship with Sia (Agni Scott), a woman he connected with in Cyprus many years ago. John’s peaceful excursion now becomes a crossroads in his life. Will he return to his old life, or does he have a future with Sia?
2. Land of Bad (2024)
Land of Bad is an instant entry into the “Dad Movie Hall of Fame.” Liam Hemsworth headlines this action thriller as JJ “Playboy” Kinney, a young Air Force sergeant who aids a Delta Force Team in rescuing a CIA operative in the Philippine jungle. The mission goes haywire, and Kinney seemingly loses his three teammates in a firefight. Kinney manages to escape the madness and seek refuge in the jungle.
However, the militants remain hot on Kinney’s scent. Without another soldier on the ground, Kinney turns to Captain Eddie “Reaper” Grimm, a US Air Force drone pilot in Las Vegas, to serve as his eyes in the sky. Kinney must rely on Reaper’s guidance to reach the rendezvous point before the enemy captures him.
1. Trolls Band Together (2023)
The colorful furry animals return for a third outing in Trolls Band Together. Poppy (Anna Kendrick) and Branch (Justin Timberlake) are officially a couple. Much to her surprise, Poppy learns that Branch was a member of her favorite boy band, BroZone, with his brothers Floyd (Troye Sivan), John Dory (Eric André), Spruce (Daveed Diggs), and Clay (Kid Cudi).
However, the brothers broke up after a bad concert. In the present, John Dory visits Branch to tell him that Floyd has been captured by Velvet (Amy Schumer) and Veneer (Andrew Rannells), two teenagers who will do anything to be pop stars. To save Floyd, Branch must reunite with his other brothers and reassemble the band.
