The first trailer for The Rings of Power Season 2 is here. Every soul is in peril as Sauron worms his way into every corner of Middle-earth.

Even with its faults and detractors, The Rings of Power‘s first season set some hefty records for Amazon’s Prime Video streaming service. The first official Neilson Ratings reported 1.25 billion minutes of viewing time (an average of 9.5 million viewers) following its premiere in September 2022, making it one of their top debuts. Based on the numbers, Amazon’s massive gamble has paid off.

Due in part to this success, Season 2 started filming before Season 1 finished airing. Amazon agreed to a five-season commitment (40 episodes) when they picked up the rights. They’ll want to get the seasons out at a steady clip, so that sort of overlap will likely be the norm. No time to waste – especially if they want to avoid repeating HBO’s wonky release schedule issue.

Rings of Power Season 2 Trailer

The first trailer for the next chapter reveals a new look for Sauron, as well as some epic action sequences, monsters, and the creation of a familiar tower. Dare I say it looks like it might be decent? You know… if it can improve upon the first season’s pacing issues, among other things.

New faces will appear as the story progresses and forces come together. The trailer confirms the addition of Círdan (the actor is unknown for now). He’s one of the highest, most noble, and eldest Sindar. He was lord of the Falas during the First Age and Master of the Gray Havens in the Second Age. Círdan was a ring bearer (he carried Narya), and he’s been seen in passing in Jackson’s movies.

Cast & Details

Many actors in The Rings of Power Season One will be returning. The story’s expansion will require some new members, however. Ciarán Hinds, Gabriel Akuwudike, Yasen Atour, Ben Daniels, Amelia Kenworthy, Nia Towle, and Nicholas Woodeson have all been announced, but their roles have not been shared.

Sauron has returned. Cast out by Galadriel, without army or ally, the rising Dark Lord must now rely on his own cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power, which will allow him to bind all the peoples of Middle-earth to his sinister will. Building on Season 1’s epic scope and ambition, Season 2 of Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power plunges even its most beloved and vulnerable characters into a rising tide of darkness, challenging each to find their place in a world that is increasingly on the brink of calamity. Elves and dwarves, orcs and men, wizards and Harfoots… as friendships are strained and kingdoms begin to fracture, the forces of good will struggle ever more valiantly to hold on to what matters to them most of all… each other.

The Rings of Power Season 2 premieres on August 29th.
