Story
Where are you from? That’s the question presented at the beginning of each episode of Origins, Audible’s new music storytelling series, featuring eight groundbreaking artists. This series works in showing the common denominator shared between them: a burning desire—truly, a need—to create and express oneself, and features Billie Eilish, Camilo, Doja Cat, Flying Lotus, King Princess, Koffee, Mickey Guyton, and Tobe Nwigwe.

I gave this book 5 stars simply because I enjoyed the story. It was captivating and thought provoking, which is what I loved about it. I couldn’t stop listening to the story. I didn’t want to put the book down. There was so much going on and the characters were very emotional. Felt like I was watching a movie. The characters talked about important things like politics, feminism, mental health & suicide. Made me think. I loved everything about this book. The performances were great too! I’d listen to this audiobook again for sure. 👍🏼👍🏼

Story
Tokyo resident Keiko Furukara has never fit in - neither in her family, nor in school - but when at the age of 18 she begins working at the Hiiromachi branch of national convenience store chain Smile Mart, she realizes instantly that she has found her purpose in life. Delighted to be able to exist in a place where the rules of social interaction are crystal clear (many are laid out line-by-line in the store's manual), Keiko does her best to copy the dress, mannerisms, and mode of speech of her colleagues, playing the part of a "normal" person excellently, more or less.

I enjoyed listening to this story. I was captivated by what was going on. It’s so sad the way your own friends and family treat you when you work at a dead end job and don’t get married. I felt bad for the main character whenever her family and friends made comments about her because she worked part-time at a convenient store and has never married. I feel like it’s no one’s business the way you live your life. People shouldn’t judge you. Everyone’s life is different. Everybody has a different timeline. The narrator did an excellent job narrating this story. I was able to understand her clearly and she used different tones while reading, which is important. Helps make the story come alive. I would recommend this book to people who enjoy Fiction and wants to read a book that has diverse characters in it. It’s a good book. 👍🏼

Wonderful Story

What can I say about this book?! It was very lovely. It was well written. I was intrigued the entire time I was listening to Aimee Horne, the narrator, tell the story. The story was captivating. That’s what I loved about it.
Another thing that I loved about the book was that it’s very current. It’s realistic. The characters in the story went through what we are going through now with this pandemic.
I know that some people don’t like books that are about serious things that we deal with in real life... I know that people read books sometimes to escape, but I enjoy reading books about realistic things. Makes the characters in the story more relatable. They’re relatable. I like that.
My only complaint about this book was that it wasn’t longer. Wish the story went on a little longer. That’s how much I enjoyed it.
The narrator did an excellent job narrating the story. She made each character sound different from one another. The characters came to life with the Aimee Horne’s narration of the story.
Even though this book takes place in current times, I think that people should read (or should I say listen?) to this book. It’s an excellent book to read. And it’s also an eye opener. One can learn something from reading this book. So give it a read when you have the chance! Happy Reading!! 😊📚♥️🌈
