this series overall was alright. the unique genre blending was a nice rethink of some over used tropes.
I will say there are a couple edits that got overlooked or was a mis speak from the narrator, the one that for some reason sticks with me is, Rex's hackles raised. as the dog was NOT in handcuffs so it WASN'T in shackles... minor I know, but hey, it shouldn't have made it into the novel.
some characters were interesting, some weren't. all and all if you can get this series for a single credit, go for it. definitely worth it time-wise, but I will say I'm glad to be finished with it.

Story
“You like it darker? Fine, so do I,” writes Stephen King in the afterword to this magnificent new collection of twelve stories that delve into the darker part of life—both metaphorical and literal. King has, for half a century, been a master of the form, and these stories, about fate, mortality, luck, and the folds in reality where anything can happen, are as rich and riveting as his novels, both weighty in theme and a huge pleasure to digest.

Story
The "maddog" murderer who is terrorizing the Twin Cities is two things: insane and extremely intelligent. He kills for the pleasure of it and thoroughly enjoys placing elaborate obstacles to keep police befuddled. Each clever move he makes is another point of pride. But when the brilliant Lieutenant Lucas Davenport, a dedicated cop and a serial killer's worst nightmare, is brought in to take up the investigation, the maddog suddenly has an adversary worthy of his genius.

Good Story

Something about this story was juuuuust shy of a five star rating. I'm not really too sure what that is. It did have everything a good cop/serial killer story needs... A likeable cop, whos got plenty of flaws but really a good guy. A smart serial killer who starts so sure of himself until it's too late. Something was just missing to make it 5.
Definitely entertaining and I'd recommend it.

I happened upon this book in the premium freebie section and decided to try it out. So glad I did. Nils is a very likeable character with his own flaws that make him more "real." I was kept guessing on who the killer was until the last moments, and you will too.

A hard listen
Reviewed: 03-15-23
This is a heavy piece with really no happy ending or anything close to that. That being said, you ABSOLUTELY should listen to it and get informed. The willful ignorance of major tech and auto is appalling. Shame on them, and shame on anyone who doesn't immediately feel disgusted with themselves and your part you play in this global supply horror show.

This collection includes the first four books: Unforeseen, Gray Matter, The Afrikaans, and Show Me.

Definitely worth a credit for the amount of story you get. Personally, I thought The Afrikkan was by far the weakest in the series, and felt it was "mailed in," by the author. The other 3 stories though were fantastic. Thomas Prescott reminds of average Joe version of Jack Reacher. Good stuff, give it a try.

Sometimes the worst storms aren't from Mother Nature, and sometimes the worst nightmares aren't the ones in our heads. As both the real world and the cyber world come crashing down, bending perception and reality, a monster snowstorm cuts New York off from the world, turning it into a wintry tomb where nothing is what it seems.
