Story
It’s 1984, and life has changed beyond recognition. Airstrip One, formerly known as Great Britain, is a place where Big Brother is always watching, and nobody can hide. Except, perhaps, for Winston Smith. Whilst working at the Ministry of Truth, rewriting history, he secretly dreams of freedom. And in a world where love and sex are forbidden, where it’s hard to distinguish between friend and foe, he meets Julia and O’Brien and vows to rebel.

This book has barely anything to do with the movie so don't expect a love story. However, what we do have is a wonderful exercise in experimental science fiction writing. This book reads less like a typical novel and more of a world building work mixed with a memoir. It's truly exciting and the level of detail creates a kind of authenticity. Definitely worth a read.

Story
For thousands of years, there has been a cycle: a Demon King rises and conquers, and a Hero is reborn a hundred years later to defeat him. Each time, civilizations are ground to dust beneath the Demon King's hordes, but humanity has remained secure in the belief that a Hero of legend will always save them. There's just one slight problem. It's only been 23 years since the Demon King's latest rise, and this time, he's already conquered more than half the world. If humanity simply waits for the Hero's return, there may be no world left for him to save.

Lying northeast of Massachusetts, just south of Hell, Arkham County is somewhere you find yourself, not somewhere you ever mean to go. Once you do find it though, you'd better get used to living there, as you may be there for however long you have left to live.

A good concept that felt poorly executed
Reviewed: 07-26-23
I enjoyed this book at the start but as it went on I noticed some glaring problems. The idea of taking select books from Lovecrafts mythos and jamming them together in a simultaneous storyline seems exciting. Unfortunately the plot gets muddled between three storylines. The actors do their best, but the voices don't have enough variance to make differentiation easy. It's often hard to tell who is who and the sound design leaves something to be desired. The horrors are normally just variations of gurgles or detuned moans. I probably won't register to this one.

Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

A great read, but oddly executed in this format
Reviewed: 08-10-21
I had no problems with the story. It was very engaging and interesting. The only problem I had was that this was a mix of dramatization and audio book. One chapter is read by the narrator and one is performed by the cast and they alternate back and forth through the book. Everyone does a great job, but I wish it was one or the other and not both. It quite threw me off at first. It doesn't take away from the story at all though.

The story begins slow and you will be wondering how it connects to the previous two books, but it will be made clear in the end. It's quite different and bizzare compared to Out of the Silent Planet and Paralandria.

But his contentment is disturbed when the wizard, Gandalf, and a company of 13 dwarves arrive on his doorstep one day, to whisk him away on a journey "there and back again". They have a plot to raid the treasure hoard of Smaug the Magnificent, a large and very dangerous dragon.

The Hobbit is my favorite book. I have read it many times now. Each time is more fun than the last. This time the story felt different and I attribute that to Andy Serkis. His narration is wonderful. All the voices feel unique and different. His acting talent truly shines in this performance. He even does Gollum's voice for the chapter Riddles in the Dark! I cannot reccomend this audiobook highly enough! A must-have for all Tolkien fans.

Story
In the predawn hours of March 4, 2002, just below the 10,000-foot peak of a mountain in eastern Afghanistan, a fierce battle raged. Outnumbered by Al Qaeda fighters, Air Force Combat Controller John Chapman and a handful of SEALs struggled to take the summit in a desperate bid to find a lost teammate. Chapman, leading the charge, was gravely wounded in the initial assault. Believing he was dead, his SEAL leader ordered a retreat. Chapman regained consciousness, alone with the enemy closing in on three sides, beginning the most difficult and exceptional fight of his life.

Incredible Read
Reviewed: 01-23-20
This is an incredible book about an amazing man who ultimately sacrifices everything for his brothers. The only criticism I can offer about the book is that about half the book is about Chapman. The rest follows the history of the CCT, Operation Anaconda, and other CCT in the operations. I have absolutely no problem with this, it makes for an interesting read and better understanding of Chappys training, but I wish more of the book followed Chapman himself. I would reccomend this book regardless and will definitely read it again.

Story
A natural storyteller and raconteur in his own right - just listen to Paddle Your Own Canoe and Gumption - actor, comedian, carpenter, and all-around manly man Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation) brings his distinctive baritone and a fine-tuned comic versatility to Twain's writing. In a knockout performance, he doesn't so much as read Twain's words as he does rejoice in them, delighting in the hijinks of Tom - whom he lovingly refers to as a "great scam artist" and "true American hero".
